About The Position

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) and Neegan Burnside Ltd. (Neegan) are expanding our team in conjunction with the recent opening of the Thunder Bay office, and we’re seeking a Manager of Municipal Engineering to take a leading role in building our team and delivering meaningful infrastructure solutions across the North and West Region. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical excellence with leadership – managing and mentoring a local team, developing client relationships, and overseeing a variety of projects including municipal infrastructure, land development, and community improvement initiatives in the region. What You’ll Do As the Manager of Municipal Engineering and Team Lead, you’ll take on a key office leadership role helping to grow Burnside’s presence in the region, expand and strengthen our client relationships, and deliver meaningful infrastructure projects that make a lasting difference in our communities.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with at least 10 years of experience, registered and in good standing with PEO.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading public infrastructure design projects from concept through construction.
  • Knowledge of municipal design criteria, TAC guidelines, OPS standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of road, sewer, watermain, and stormwater management design and construction.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, sub-consultants, and project budgets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including MS Project), with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and vehicle.

  • Field Services and contract administration experience would be a strong asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead successful project delivery: Direct and motivate a team of engineers, technologists, and EITs to deliver innovative, constructible designs that meet client expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Shape infrastructure solutions: Collaborate with senior staff and clients to define project vision, scope, and design strategies that align with municipal priorities and sustainability goals.
  • Deliver high-quality designs: Oversee functional, preliminary, and detailed designs for public infrastructure—ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Lead municipal and land development projects: Deliver planning, design, and construction services for public infrastructure and private development projects.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities: Support projects that enhance infrastructure and community well-being in partnership with First Nations and Indigenous organizations across the region.
  • Drive project success: Manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables to achieve profitability targets while maintaining exceptional quality and client satisfaction.
  • Develop client partnerships: Strengthen relationships with municipal and regional clients through responsive communication, trusted technical advice, and proactive project management.
  • Grow our team: Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, helping them advance their technical and project management skills through coaching and formal development plans.
  • Enhance design practices: Collaborate with peers and CAD leaders to improve workflows and design standards across the organization.
