About The Position

Moog is hiring a Manager, Mechanical Actuation Design Engineering to join our Military Aircraft Group. This leadership role offers high visibility, direct impact on business performance, and responsibility for driving technical excellence across multiple critical development programs. You’ll lead a team to deliver solutions that meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety — all while fostering a high‑trust, high‑accountability culture. Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, Actuation for the Military OE Division, you’ll lead engineers and align resources with business priorities. You will be responsible for leading the team who does the design engineering on our new development programs focusing on rotary geared actuators utilized in leading edge flaps and pay-load bay doors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
  • 10+ years of experience in the aerospace industry or a closely related field, including 3+ years in management with direct people‑leadership responsibility.
  • Proven track record leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and/or testing of complex actuation systems, with a strong understanding of DFM/DFMA principles.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to influence technical and strategic decisions in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments.
  • Exceptional communication, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% and work onsite full‑time in Torrance, CA.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance and work on Special Access Programs (SAP).

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience managing others and leading large‑scale aerospace NPI programs.
  • Demonstrated design experience including detailed concept development, drawing definition, and GD&T.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex performance, safety, and certification needs, lead challenging conversations, and guide teams and customers toward aligned, technically sound solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 25 direct and non-direct reports, oversee hiring, staffing alignment, and performance management.
  • Build a high‑trust, high‑accountability culture that fosters ownership, collaboration, solution focused thinking, and proactive problem‑solving.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design and integration of complex actuation systems and influencing decisions on performance, safety, producibility, and cost.
  • Advance continuous improvement in processes, tools, and methods to deliver predictable, high‑quality engineering outcomes.
  • Represent Moog with customers and partners during program capture, execution, and reviews, acting as delegate for the Engineering Site Manager as needed.
  • Collaborate across Moog sites and global teams to align priorities, resolve challenges, and ensure customer satisfaction.
