About The Position

The Lead, Mechanical Engineer is responsible for participating in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. The engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with an understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design. Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers. Mechanical design engineers can work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms. This role involves providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees, overseeing the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations, and ensuring proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule. The position drives successful program execution by ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with all processes, procedures, and program requirements. It also involves providing input into new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that will have a measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results, and ensuring program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met. The role requires managing and working in a fast-paced, demanding environment with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement, influencing a wide range of audiences, and demonstrating leadership skills to win support without a direct reporting structure. Responsibilities include the total lifecycle of programs, from proposals and bids to planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution. Understanding of aircraft systems and various mission systems is crucial, as is lead experience on large prototype programs. Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills are essential. Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements, as well as knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management, are also important. The role involves formulating a strategic vision and defining an implementation plan of action to achieve success. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret with SCI security clearance. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
