About The Position

Valero is seeking a Manager Marine Assurance to manage transportation services efforts to establish, maintain and enforce vessel and terminal standards at the Corpus Christi Refineries. Valero is committed to advancing the energy future through innovation, ingenuity, and unmatched execution. This role is salaried exempt, meaning not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
10+ years of maritime industry experience required.
1+ year of experience as a Senior Officer on tank ships required.
Able and willing to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally required.
Able and willing to climb stairs and ladders occasionally required.
Currently possess a valid driver’s license required.
Currently possess a valid passport or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe required.
Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC), or the ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe required.
Able and willing to work onsite and in-person at the Valero Corpus Christi Refineries required.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s or higher level degree preferred.
Master’s experience on tank ships is preferred.
5+ years of actual sea service aboard tankers preferred.
2+ years served in the capacity of Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or 1st Assistant Engineer preferred.
OCIMF SIRE Category 1 accreditation preferred.
Licensed Merchant Mariner Officer for Unlimited Ocean tonnage – Master’s license for vessels 3,000 gross tons or more or Chief Engineer’s license for vessel’s powered by main propulsion of 3,000kW (4,021HP) or more preferred.

Responsibilities

Monitor and report developments in marine regulations and practices that could impact shipping and or marine terminals.
Handle operational problems and special operations with ships and deep-water equipment when requested, including potential oil spills on Valero chartered vessels.
Manage and coordinate local Pollution and Safety Advisor program.
Prepare reports and maintain files on vessels vetted and their ability to conduct cargo operations safely and efficiently.
Report operational and safety issues and recommend improvements to shore facilities to improve the efficiency of loading / discharge of marine equipment.
Investigate and/or report marine incidents.
Conduct OCIMF SIRE inspections.
Establish solid working relationships with area regulatory, pilot and industry groups through participation in area marine industry groups.
Support the West Coast Valero Marine Terminals remotely.
