About The Position

The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement, migration, and other forms of assistance to refugees, migrants and other people of concern. As a member of our team, you will be supporting new arrivals in South Australia to achieve their social, economic, cultural and community participation goals. You will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home. Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is seeking a thoughtful, strategic and relationship-centred fundraiser to lead and grow our major giving program. This is an opportunity to build meaningful philanthropic partnerships that support welcome, settlement, participation and belonging for people from refugee backgrounds, migrants and other people of concern. Reporting to the Development and Communications Manager, the Manager of Major Giving will independently manage day-to-day major gifts activity, including donor pipeline development, prospect research, donor engagement, proposal preparation, stewardship and reporting. The role works across ARA’s programs and with senior internal and external stakeholders to translate ARA’s strategic priorities and community impact into compelling philanthropic opportunities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising, partnerships, stakeholder engagement or a related field.
  • Experience managing major gift portfolios and contributing to high-value fundraising or partnership outcomes.
  • Strong experience in donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including donor communications, proposals and cases for support.
  • Understanding of the Australian philanthropy landscape.
  • Confidence using CRM systems, pipeline tracking tools and donor data to monitor activity and inform decisions.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to ARA’s mission and respect for the strengths, aspirations and contributions of people from refugee backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of ARA’s major gifts pipeline, with a focus on high-value gifts from individuals, corporate partners and gifts in wills.
  • Identify and qualify prospective donors, cultivate and steward relationships, prepare tailored proposals and cases for support, and provide clear reporting on pipeline activity, donor engagement and fundraising performance.
  • Develop and manage a structured major gifts pipeline across individual donors, corporate partners and bequest prospects.
  • Build trusted, donor-centred relationships through thoughtful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Create compelling proposals, presentations, donor communications and impact reports.
  • Use CRM data, donor insights and pipeline tracking to support forecasting, planning and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to gather program information, outcomes data and impact stories.
  • Provide specialist advice on major donor engagement, philanthropic opportunities and stewardship approaches.
