St. Michael’s Health Group is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and hands-on Manager, Maintenance Services to lead the day-to-day operations of building maintenance, safety, and security functions. This role requires a collaborative leader who is equally comfortable providing strategic oversight and actively supporting frontline operations when needed. The Manager is accountable for ensuring that all building systems, infrastructure, and maintenance services operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards, while fostering a responsive, high-performing, and service-oriented team environment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years experience in skilled mechanical maintenance and repair is required.
  • Three years progressive managerial experience is required.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a health care organization is an asset.
  • Electrical, plumbing and mechanical skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage departmental scheduling and payroll inputs, including approval of timecards, shift schedules, and employee leave requests, ensuring accuracy, appropriate staffing coverage, and compliance with organizational policies
  • Provide hands-on leadership and oversight of maintenance, building operations, and safety/security services.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance and Building Services departments, ensuring efficient and safe facility operations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate maintenance programs and service standards.
  • Lead, supervise, and support maintenance staff, including scheduling, coaching, performance management, and training.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including forecasting for labour, materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Coordinate and oversee capital projects, renovations, and building upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with WHMIS, occupational health and safety regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in and support skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work on building systems and infrastructure as required.
  • Monitor and ensure preventative maintenance programs are completed to maintain asset integrity and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot complex maintenance issues and provide technical expertise and hands-on support to staff.
  • Coordinate and liaise with external contractors, trades, and service providers for specialized maintenance and construction work.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to maintenance, safety, and compliance activities.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and urgent maintenance issues as required.
