About The Position

The Manager of Maintenance Planning is responsible for creating and executing the operational plan for the Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) Division at Alaska Airlines (AS). This role leads and establishes priorities for the team and partners with Network, Finance, and M&E stakeholders to develop a cogent strategy that consistently delivers safety and compliance while optimizing M&E resources to achieve corporate objectives.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in maintenance planning, material planning, maintenance, engineering, or related technical operations experience.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, aviation management, economics, engineering, business intelligence, or finance, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to alternate between strategic, tactical, and operational priorities while working on projects and to quickly determine long, medium and short term impact of proposed solutions and goals.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized, with the ability to execute on multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is key.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external to Alaska) that drive mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Proficiency in Trax and data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Smartsheet)
  • Experience working with union-represented work groups
  • 3 years of project management and/or continuous improvement experience.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal (both informal working teams and formal executive presentations), and in clear/concise written documents.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of individual contributors with varying skillsets and responsibilities to produce the Line Maintenance workload in a rolling 7-day window, accounting for resource constraints and driving operational reliability.
  • Participates in the collection and evaluation of planning workload metrics, utilizing the information to implement strategic process improvements that support operational, planning, and reliability goals.
  • Builds and maintains relationships across M&E to coordinate efforts and ensure successful planning and execution of routine program workload and special projects, including reliability initiatives, commercial and marketing efforts, and aircraft modifications.
  • Establishes regular communications and touchpoints that ensure M&E leadership and relevant stakeholders have visibility into overall strategy and can coordinate actions required to achieve plan objectives.
  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, fostering strategic and systems thinking, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Leverages technology to enhance department performance and productivity.
  • Provides input on the long-term forecast for M&E that balances demand and capacity and supports coordination with key stakeholders, including Network Operations Control (NOC) and Network Planning, to develop a strategic roadmap that ensures M&E has the appropriate mix of personnel, qualifications, tooling, parts, and workspace to achieve organizational objectives.
