About The Position

The Manager, Lending Compliance and Quality Control provides leadership for UFCU’s Lending Compliance and Quality Control program across Mortgage, Consumer, and Commercial Lending. This role partners closely with Legal, Lending, Risk, and other business leaders to develop and maintain a scalable compliance framework that supports responsible growth, sound risk management, operational excellence, and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. The Manager fosters a culture of compliance by strengthening governance practices, translating regulatory requirements into practical business solutions, and continuously enhancing the compliance program to support UFCU’s evolving business strategy and regulatory environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mortgage and/or consumer lending compliance, fair lending, lending quality control, or a closely related regulatory compliance function.
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience, including experience developing and leading teams with direct or indirect reporting relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge of lending compliance requirements and related operational controls.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Practical knowledge of HMDA, fair lending analysis, ECOA/adverse action, Regulation Z, RESPA, UDAAP, NMLS/SAFE Act requirements, mortgage quality control, consumer lending quality control, and lending-related advertising/marketing review.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations applicable to commercial, consumer, mortgage, and home equity lending.
  • Advanced knowledge of current lending laws and regulations, residential real estate lending documentation, conventional financing, and credit union practices.
  • Strong knowledge of lending processes across all three lines of business, including documentation requirements, governmental and agency requirements, and lending terminology.
  • Knowledge of compliance governance principles and risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies that support operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Experience working in a credit union and/or within the financial services industry.
  • Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional, Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer, or similar compliance certification.
  • Experience leading compliance functions through rapid growth, organizational integration, system conversions, regulatory exams, internal audits, or formal remediation efforts.
  • Experience developing dashboards, metrics, issue tracking, regulatory change tracking, or executive-ready reporting for lending compliance, quality control, audit, or exam readiness.
  • Experience leading or supporting regulatory examinations, internal audits, or regulatory remediation efforts.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (CMCP), NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), or other comparable financial services compliance certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively train, coach, and lead a cohesive team of Lending Compliance and Quality Control employees in daily activities to ensure consistent focus in communicating findings to affected business units.
  • Coach, develop, and manage team members with an emphasis on performance, professional growth, accountability, and achievement of department goals.
  • Oversee daily compliance and quality control activities, including HMDA reporting, ECOA and Fair Lending compliance, and quality control reviews, to ensure work is completed accurately, consistently, and timely.
  • Develop and maintain documented procedures, cross-training plans, and coverage models for critical lending compliance and quality control responsibilities, including HMDA, mortgage QC, fair lending, ECOA/adverse action, consumer lending compliance, and marketing/advertising review.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Build team capacity and bench strength by identifying knowledge gaps, creating training plans, and reducing key-person dependency in critical lending compliance functions.
  • Build a successful team to operate according to The UFCU Way, providing guidance and resources as needed.
  • Serve as a role model of UFCU’s culture in transparent communication, two-way dialogue, and proactive communication.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulators, NCUA examiners, internal auditors, Mortgage Services, Consumer Lending, Small Business Lending, and other Credit Union stakeholders on lending compliance matters.
  • Own or co-own action plans created as a result of examinations, audits, internal testing, or quality control reviews, including management response coordination, corrective action tracking, evidence gathering, and validation of remediation.
  • Conduct risk analyses and develop risk mitigation strategies, as needed, to address lending compliance and quality control risks.
  • Review, revise, and develop written policies and procedures that address regulatory requirements applicable to UFCU’s lending practices.
  • Support timely file-closing compliance for Mortgage Services, Consumer Lending, and Small Business Lending as required by the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Ensure timely review and analysis of Fair Lending data to support equitable service to UFCU’s membership.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations by using Temenos Compliance software and other third-party compliance support services, and by reviewing lending-related advertising and marketing materials.
  • Research and resolve escalated lending compliance questions, issues, and operational concerns.
  • Stay current on industry standards, laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, and compliance expectations.
  • Lead lending-related regulatory change management by monitoring new and amended requirements, assessing operational impact, coordinating implementation with affected business units, maintaining implementation evidence, and reporting status to Legal, Compliance, and Lending leadership.
  • Partner with Mortgage Services, Consumer Lending, and Businessl Lending leadership to prepare for audits, examinations, and reviews, and ensure requested information is provided accurately and timely.
  • Communicate clearly with Lending Leadership regarding compliance performance, resource needs, emerging risks, and recommended support.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, training, reporting, and operational consistency.
  • Design scalable lending compliance and quality control processes that can support increased loan volume, expanded markets, system changes, merger/integration activity, and future organizational growth.
  • Demonstrate UFCU leadership standards through support for our culture, values, and behavioral expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across Mortgage Services, Consumer Lending, Small Business Lending, and UFCU to influence desired outcomes and support organizational goals.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
  • Complete required regulatory training as assigned.
  • Maintain strict adherence and compliance to all laws, rules, regulations and internal controls specific to your role, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, USA Patriot Act, OFAC and Fair Lending regulations.
  • Conduct training, as appropriate, to address identified gaps in regulatory knowledge, policies, or procedures.
  • Ensure NMLS renewal and registration are completed as required by Regulation G.
