About The Position

Clio is seeking a Manager, Legal Architecture, SMB to build and lead a team focused on the legal credibility of Clio's SMB sales motion. This new, high-visibility role within the Sales organization will involve leading a team of six Legal Architects, who are former practicing lawyers. The team's responsibilities include securing legal wins in deals, conducting tailored demonstrations of Clio's AI products, and enhancing the legal fluency of the broader Sales organization across various segments. This is a player-coach role where the manager will be responsible for hiring, coaching, developing the team, setting coverage strategy, managing capacity, and establishing the operating model for an expanding function. The manager will also remain hands-on with select strategic accounts, product launches, and thought leadership to maintain expertise and set an example for the team. The role reports to the Director of Legal Architecture.

Requirements

  • Experience managing or leading a team, or demonstrated player-coach success, ideally in go-to-market, sales, consulting, legal innovation, or legal tech.
  • A customer-facing track record, comfortable in discovery, live demonstrations, and navigating technical, emotional, and ethical objections with senior legal stakeholders.
  • A strong AI point of view, with an understanding of LLMs and their application to legal drafting, research, and agentic workflows, and reflexive use of AI in one's own work.
  • Exceptional communication and EQ, with the ability to command a room, coach in the moment, and distill complex ideas into clear, persuasive narratives.
  • Comfort building in ambiguity, thriving in a fast-moving, high-growth environment and scaling a function while it is operational.

Nice To Haves

  • Led a legal innovation, pre-sales, or go-to-market team in legal technology.
  • Built or scaled sales enablement programs from the ground up.
  • Active involvement in legal innovation communities or bar association technology committees.

Responsibilities

  • Build and grow the team: Hire, coach, and develop six Legal Architects across Mid Market, Government, Velocity, and Strategic segments. Set the culture, quality bar, and career path for a new team.
  • Own the coverage model: Assign coverage by motion and segment, managing capacity against demand. Implement high-touch coverage for high-value deals and enablement/scale for high-volume, smaller deals.
  • Stay hands-on where it counts: Personally lead a small set of strategic accounts, marquee demos, and product launches. Address complex legal, ethical, and technical objections, modeling expected standards.
  • Scale enablement: Own programs to increase legal fluency across the Sales organization. Standardize reusable demos, prompt libraries, playbooks, and practice-area content.
  • Be the voice of the lawyer: Translate field insights into product direction for Product and Engineering. Align messaging with Marketing and Enablement. Coordinate with Enterprise Legal Architects to share learnings.
