Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’ only academic center and tertiary care provider, is seeking a Manager, Lab Quality and Phlebotomy. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Laboratory Services and works in coordination with the Medical Director. The Manager is responsible for the administrative leadership and operational oversight of the Phlebotomy team, while also supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Baystate Health Laboratories’ Quality Management System (QMS). This position serves as the central resource for laboratory quality and operational standardization across the Baystate Health system, collaborating with laboratory leadership and system administration to promote standardized processes, reporting practices, and quality monitoring. The manager provides oversight of both system-wide and site-specific quality metrics, acts as the subject matter expert in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and risk management, and assists in identifying trends and developing strategies to improve performance and patient care. The Manager collaborates with the laboratory leadership team to advance decision-support initiatives, coordinate Quality Management and Performance Improvement activities, and support organizational goals. The incumbent will serve on hospital committees as assigned and drive process improvement through the application and teaching of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. This position promotes quality outcomes, operational efficiency, workplace and patient safety, and staff development while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including those of CAP, AABB, The Joint Commission, CLIA, Massachusetts state regulations, and other governing agencies. The manager also participates in the administration of the departmental phlebotomy budget and serves as the lead coordinator for laboratory inspections, including on-site CAP, AABB, and Joint Commission surveys, as well as CAP-assigned inspections. The Manager provides direct supervision to the Quality and Phlebotomy teams and works collaboratively with laboratory managers throughout the health system to achieve organizational objectives and meet the needs of laboratory clients and patients. Responsibilities include developing departmental goals and objectives aligned with Baystate Health’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities; overseeing system laboratory quality assurance programs; coordinating new employee orientation; assisting with performance evaluations, payroll administration, and corrective action processes; and providing leadership in departmental decision-making through critical thinking and independent judgment. The incumbent is also responsible for the oversight, investigation, and response to laboratory Safety Reporting System (SRS) events and related safety initiatives. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
