About The Position

The IT Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the build and support of both custom and 3rd-party technical solutions to support Casey’s business objectives. This role leads the POS Engineering team, which owns the custom integrations that connect Casey’s point-of-sale platforms to the enterprise. The role partners with the POS Platform Teams to retire legacy technical debt and deliver a modern, real-time integration architecture. The role leads a team of Engineers and Analysts, including employees and contract resources, that values automation, reusability, scalability and security using agile/iterative development frameworks and industry-best practices that meet the business need.

Requirements

  • This position requires authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.   • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline or work-related equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum (7) seven years of progressive experience leading and managing a team within a team building custom technical solutions and implementing 3rd-party products, including leading enterprise integration work (APIs, messaging, event-driven or streaming architectures) and managing delivery across employees and external contractors or vendors.
  • Strong knowledge of IT best practices and agile development methodologies is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate requirements into design and subsequent solution build.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into integration and data architecture. Ability to balance competing priorities across multiple platform teams.
  • Ability to work rapidly with the pressure of completing deadlines and frequent interruptions in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across IT disciplines and teams including third parties.
  • Prior experience working with Senior Management and be able to provide constructive input into the discussion.
  • Strong organizational and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail, convenience store or fuel point-of-sale and payments environments, including working with POS vendors.
  • Experience with data platforms (data lake, master data management, identity).
  • Experience leading a migration from legacy batch or file-based integrations to real-time architecture.
  • Hands-on background with cloud-based integration tooling and modern CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a strong team of professionals assigned to major initiatives. Responsible for hiring, training, salary administration, performance management and corrective actions for direct reports. Collaborate with team members on career development and goal setting.
  • Leads a blended team of employees, contractors and contract-to-hire engineers, including onboarding and knowledge transfer.
  • Owns the delivery and roadmap of the enterprise integration architecture for POS, including real-time event streaming that replaces proprietary batch file exchanges, the enterprise data lake, and modern master data and identity.
  • Owns the legacy integrator bridge so existing integrations continue to run while migration to the new architecture occurs in stages, without a hard cutover.
  • Partners with the POS Platform Team managers so integration needs are planned jointly and do not pull those teams away from their own priorities.
  • Identifies and implements the appropriate technical solutions to fulfill requirements and partners with Product Management and business partners to recognize new technical needs throughout the organization.
  • Collaborates with the Enterprise and Solution Architects to ensure that proposed technical solutions and the integration architecture meet the requested business needs and perform effectively and efficiently within the Casey’s technical architecture.
  • Works with team to identify and act on refactoring and upgrade opportunities that keep solutions running optimally and retire legacy technical debt.
  • Ensures team provides dependable and responsive support in conjunction with IT Operations and manages recurring support demand alongside planned delivery so sustaining work does not displace roadmap commitments.
  • Establishes engineering quality standards (test automation, CI/CD, release discipline) and drives meaningful adoption of AI in how the team builds, tests and supports solutions.
  • Defines timelines for team goals as they align to overall organizational objectives. Ensures work being done by team is jointly and regularly prioritized between the team, Program Management and their respective business partners.
  • Monitors team performance in delivering according to the agile methodology and works with team members and agile coaches to improve processes, capabilities and other improvement opportunities to increase delivery velocity.
  • Understands and keeps up to date with latest IT trends while embedding those standards within the team in conjunction with Enterprise and Solution Architecture. Promotes individual learning and self-directed development of team members.
