About The Position

This role requires to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This role will be an hybrid position: some days working from home, and other days at the Head Office (540 St Anne's Rd, Winnipeg MB, R2M 5R7). Reporting to the VP, Internal Audit, the Manager, Internal Audit plays a key role in executing the Annual Internal Audit Plan and overseeing day-to-day audit activities. This position evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of Assiniboine Credit Union / Caisse Assiniboine’s (ACU) internal controls, risk management processes, compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and best practices. Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of progressive experience in internal auditing, risk management, or compliance, including supervisory responsibilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA, CIA or professional designation equivalent is required.
  • Proven knowledge of internal audit principles, risk-based audit approaches, internal control frameworks, regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in all core business systems across multiple departments with proven ability to learn and assess new systems, as required for audit purposes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence, negotiate and build relationships with management and staff.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and audit projects and meet deadlines.
  • Maintains, manages and exchanges highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with fraud prevention and detection techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of credit union philosophy, operations, products, services, and relevant legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, coach and mentor a high-performing team to deliver and exceed expectations while coaching employees to realize their professional development goals.
  • Develop effective working relationships with all department and branch management leadership to foster transparency and cooperation.
  • Accountable for team compliance and alignment with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Develop and maintain a training program for new Internal Auditors; provide training to the Internal Audit team in specific control environments and operational areas, as required.
  • Promote a culture of ethics, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Coordinate annual audits with the external auditors and for all outsourced internal audit services.
  • Continuously and actively seeks efficiencies through automation and process improvements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the risk-based Annual Internal Audit Plan and ensure timely execution of approved audit projects.
  • Lead internal audits from planning through fieldwork and reporting stages in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Identify, analyze, and assess risks and controls to evaluate operational effectiveness, compliance with policies, and regulatory adherence.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-supported audit findings and reports with practical recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead the tracking of past audit recommendations, including assigning related follow up tasks to the internal audit staff, monitoring the implementation of management commitments, obtaining status updates of open items and completing the related biennial reporting for the ELT and Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Regularly review operational planning projects in process to determine status and impact on the internal control environment.
  • Maintain awareness of all key operational changes, emerging risks, changes to enterprise risks and regulatory / legislative updates impacting the control environment and Internal Audit planning.
  • Host quarterly meetings with Corporate Risk management to discuss current issues impacting internal controls, core process changes and related risks.
  • Support the VP, Internal Audit in preparing reports for the Audit & Risk Committee and senior management.
  • Attend Committee meetings to present Internal Audit reports and answer related questions.
