About The Position

The Insurance Manager is responsible for providing leadership, training, and operational support within the Canadian Claims function. This role ensures effective handling of complex and high-risk claims, including litigation and subrogation files, while maintaining strong quality control standards and compliance with internal insurance and legal governance requirements. The position acts as a key escalation point for complex matters and serves as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external partners, including legal counsel, brokers, and third-party administrators. The role also supports insurance administration, reporting, provisioning, and contractual risk review activities.

Requirements

  • College diploma or bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Law, Risk Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in claims management, insurance, risk management, or a related field.
  • Experience handling complex claims, litigation, subrogation, and escalated files.
  • Experience reviewing contracts, leases, and insurance requirements.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders including legal counsel, brokers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of claims handling principles, insurance coverages, and risk management practices.
  • Understanding of litigation management, subrogation processes, and claims reserving/provisioning.
  • Ability to interpret insurance requirements within contracts, leases, and agreements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Bilingualism (English and French), both written and spoken, is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with claims management systems, Legal Tracker, Laserfiche, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High level of attention to detail, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Language skills: Bilingualism required (Advanced French and English) both spoken and written, as the person will be required to work and communicate regularly in English while performing the tasks outlined above. Specifically, the role requires collaboration with global teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional insurance designations (e.g., CIP) and/or adjuster licensing are considered assets.
  • Previous experience providing training, coaching, or operational support to team members is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex, sensitive, and escalated claims files, including litigation and subrogation matters.
  • Act as escalation point for high-risk claims and incident-related issues.
  • Support Operations teams during incident response and initial claims coordination.
  • Deliver training and ongoing support to the Canadian Claims team.
  • Promote adherence to claims handling standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the claims function.
  • Perform quality control reviews of claims files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Identify gaps in documentation and provide corrective guidance to claims handlers.
  • Ensure consistency in claims file management across the team.
  • Review insurance clauses in contracts, leases, and agreements to ensure compliance with corporate insurance requirements.
  • Manage legal expense tracking and invoice validation through Legal Tracker.
  • Support provisioning activities for litigation and complex claims files.
  • Collaborate on insurance renewal processes, including data collection and budget preparation.
  • Maintain Certificates of Insurance (COI), including updates and annual issuance.
  • Act as primary liaison with external legal counsel, TPAs, brokers, landlords, and other external partners.
  • Coordinate cross-functional support between Claims, Operations, Legal, and Finance teams.
  • Prepare periodic reporting on claims activity, litigation exposure, provisions, and CIR-related incidents.
  • Support financial forecasting and claims provisioning activities.
  • Maintain claims-related invoice workflows in Laserfiche, including expert invoices and supporting records.
  • Support administrative workflows and documentation integrity across claims systems.
  • Review and coordinate CCTV requests in Canada for claims investigation purposes.
  • Provide operational support during incidents and urgent claims matters.
