About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and supports determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals and initiatives. The Manager in Training upholds company policies, procedures, and visual standards, promotes sales and promotions, and represents Hibbett | City Gear by creating a distinctive customer experience and building customer loyalty. This role emphasizes outstanding customer service and merchandise promotion. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control and is trained to carry out the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Manager in Training helps oversee store assets, sales, inventory, expenses, staffing, merchandising, restocking, ordering, and scheduling. They guide employees and customers across departments, monitor inventory movement and customer trends, maintain service quality, and perform general administrative tasks. The position supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems. The role is hourly, non-exempt, and based in Abbeville, Louisiana.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store and department responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability across departments.
Direct staff to ensure department responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Perform general administrative duties and train for the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring effective and accurate internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
