About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and helps determine approaches to achieve store goals and initiatives while upholding company policies, procedures, and visual standards. The Manager in Training promotes sales and promotions and provides an outstanding customer experience to help acquire and retain customers. In the Store Manager’s absence, this role assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained to perform the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position supports asset control, sales and merchandising activity, inventory awareness, customer service, employee direction, and the completion of departmental responsibilities. It also helps protect company assets and financial information by supporting effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; experience in footwear and athletic apparel is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player with a passion for outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards, including those in operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
