About The Position

The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services is building a more resilient and sustainable health care system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it, while responding to system-wide health challenges, improving health outcomes, and maintaining fiscal responsibility. The ministry supports Albertans’ health and well-being throughout their lives by protecting public health and promoting wellness; coordinating and delivering safe, person-centered, quality health services; health system planning and capital infrastructure planning; supporting innovative information management and technologies; regulating health care; and funding the health system. The Department of Primary and Preventative Health Services establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Manager, Immunization Business. This role is responsible for the strategic development, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of the Provincial Vaccine Depot, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective distribution of vaccines and antivirals across the province.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a field related to science, supplemented by four years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Immunization Team, Communicable Disease Control (CDC), and internal partners to develop and implement short- and long-term strategic and operational plans for the Provincial Vaccine Depot.
  • Consult with the Director of Immunization, Executive Director, Communicable Disease Control, and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (OCMOH), as required, to ensure alignment with best practices, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of provincial immunization strategy, including long-term technological and operational planning.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Provincial Vaccine Depot, including staffing, scheduling, and on-call rotations.
  • Lead recruitment, performance management, and employee relations for depot staff.
  • Ensure operational responsiveness to distribution and allocation needs across Alberta.
  • Support staff engagement with key partners including the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP), Alberta Pharmacy Association (RxA), and internal pharmacy stakeholders.
  • Oversee procurement and contracting processes for vaccines and influenza antivirals.
  • Monitor contract performance and adapt procurement strategies to meet program demands and changing public health needs.
  • Lead the development and execution of provincial outreach policy related to immunization distribution.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with cold chain requirements, regulatory frameworks, and quality standards.
  • Ensure efficient and reliable distribution of biologicals throughout Alberta.
  • Oversee inventory planning, including safety stock levels, reorder points, and order frequency.
  • Minimize product wastage by proactively managing expiries and maintaining cold chain integrity from manufacturer to end user.
  • Continuously evaluate operations to identify and implement improvements in processes, policy, and information management.
  • Ensure information technology systems support efficient depot operations and contribute to their ongoing development.
  • Represent the organization on federal, provincial, and territorial committees, including the Vaccine Supply Working Group.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance provincial immunization supply systems.
