The Manager Price & Promo Strategy owns the development of pricing strategy as well as the underlying Category-level strategies with accountability for execution and performance of those strategies in coordination with our promotional strategy in support of our Brand Strategy. The Manager III Price & Promo Strategy is the primary conduit to the Category Leadership; responsible for gaining alignment on our pricing strategy, partnering on achievement of our strategic KPIs (financial, pricing, etc.) and delivering on all elements of pricing management. Improve Price Position is a primary workstream of our Brand strategy and this role is integral to delivering on the base pricing elements. Responsible for ensuring our pricing architecture is followed and delivers on our customer’s needs. Formulate and refine all facets of our overall pricing strategy, including category roles, competitive price targets, item roles, etc. What we ask of you: Functional ownership of all pricing tools for the brand. Proactively partners with ADUSA Price & Promo Solutions to assess solution alternatives, implement across the Brand and ensure best in class usage and performance. Assess strategy elements at least annually leveraging data modeling and insights Defining, establishing and maintaining pricing guidelines at all levels of the product hierarchy across all categories considering factors such as price / promotional price elasticity, margin targets, competitive price position, item / size relationships and private label considerations Lead and guide direct reports to analyze and propose strategic pricing recommendations in support of Stop & Shop's broader pricing strategy (routine price optimization, strategic investments, and portfolio investments). Coach, teach and train the Price & Promo Analyst (PPA) team to identify pricing opportunities, assess the financial magnitude and propose changes that align with our pricing strategy and support achievement of our financial targets Partner with Finance and Merchandising leadership to manage financial margin and proactively recommend changes to pricing actions to achieve our financial targets Pricing Strategy Ownership Frequent assessment and refinement leveraging internal and external data elements to sharpen and transform our pricing strategy and maximizes the impact of price investments Present pricing strategy changes and status updates to all levels of leadership in a manner that quickly gains consensus and reflects expertise in the subject matter Translate overall pricing strategy into pricing solutions , tactics, training materials, KPIs , and reporting to ensure day-to-day pricing activities are aligned with the overall strategy Establish analytic models to understand impact of price investments, considering promotion assumptions and product mix impact Develop investment scenarios to provide recommendations to senior leadership Lead Pricing and Promotion Strategy & Execution Provide direct leadership and oversight for pricing and promotion strategy and execution. Develop, coach and teach a common understanding of company pricing strategy and targets to facilitate category level pricing strategies and tactics Partner with Category Leadership to align on pricing tactics supporting the achievement category strategies and initiatives, while balancing margin and overall pricing strategy goals Establish governance and oversight to deliver best - in - class insights from our pricing tools and efficient execution of all activities Manage and maintain policies, procedures , and training guides supporting all aspects of pricing Partner with Finance and Merchandising leadership to manage margin and pricing strategy Evaluate margin performance in partnership with Finance and provide insights and recommendations Anticipate business needs and provides proactive analysis to address challenges Determine the effectiveness of the current business investment in price and promotional activities and identify those areas where investment is underperforming Analyze and prepare insights and standardized reporting to reflect our overall performance for price position, financial performance and market changes Educate and inform Merchandising Leadership on current pricing health and ongoing initiatives weekly and proactively identify concerns with insightful solutions Functional ownership of all pricing tools for the brand Proactively partners with ADUSA Price & Promotion Solutions to identify opportunities and enhancements needed with technology provider to deliver on our strategy, and evaluate alternatives where necessary. Requirements

  • 10 years of pricing, merchandising, retail or finance roles
  • 5-7 years of management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or relevant professional certifications (i.e., CPA, CFA, CPP, etc)
  • Pricing competency including the impact of competition, commodities, futures and other factors on pricing. Promotional tactics and vendor funding
  • Financial / P&L flows
  • Continuous improvement methodologies
  • Change management principles
  • Advanced proficiency in pricing tools and analytical modeling
  • Ability to identify, access and analyze data and information to develop actionable insights, which can serve as the basis for decision making, strategy creation & initiatives/solutions. Utilizes data, analytics, and insights to develop strategies which anticipate changes
  • Ability to create & foster internal & external cross-functional relationships that enable the development of beneficial solutions. Developing business based on long-term vision and internal and external collaboration with peers and leaders
  • Ability to understand & apply knowledge of Stop & Shop & food retail’s business financial drivers, practices, and commodity trends to develop pricing recommendations which produce desired results. Models and interprets pricing strategies and tactics to understand impacts on financial and strategic targets
  • Ability to communicate with internal partners & external solution providers across Merchandising and supporting departments; communication may be in a variety of formats, including formal presentations & required documentation. Ensures that communication is tailored to the audience and provides information required for success.
  • Ability to gain alignment between internal stakeholders, while achieving desired business result. Developing creative solutions to resolve challenging situations to achieve alignment on desired business results
  • Ability to develop, tailor & implement comprehensive pricing strategies, including facilitating tactics & plans that deliver Stop & Shop’s pricing strategy. Develop innovative Category or Pricing plans which maximize return on investment. Leverages, enhances and/or embraces innovative technology, leverages all appropriate systems & tools to enable execution of objectives. Build or enhances systems and software to meet business needs.
