About The Position

As a Manager I – Project Engineering within the Major Projects Group, you will serve as a recognized technical leader driving design quality, consistency, and innovation across concurrent utility-scale renewable and gas generation projects. A typical day involves providing technical direction and mentorship to Project Engineers, Engineer I/II Staff, and CAD Designers, collaborating with Owners, Internal Engineering Teams, and Engineer- of- Record teams on submittal milestones and review timelines, performing drawing and design reviews, and owning Basis of Design development and RFI management. The Manager I – Project Engineering, will support cross-department standards and initiatives and will work closely with engineering, estimating, integrated supply chain, construction, and project management teams to ensure designs are safe, code-compliant, constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with project and Owner requirements.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of progressive engineering and/or engineering supervisory experience in a related energy or construction industry (e.g., civil/structural, electrical, industrial, utilities, or power generation).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college required, or relevant equivalent industry experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or master’s degree in engineering is required.

  • Strong general technical knowledge in multiple areas related to power generation facilities including wind, solar, BESS, gas generation, and high-voltage facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the project engineering lifecycle from project award through design delivery, construction support, and closeout with emphasis on schedule conformance and financial impact at each phase.
  • Serves as the lead engineering point of contact to Owner, Internal Engineering Teams, and Engineer of Record (EOR) teams on submittal milestones, review timelines, procurement deliverables, page turns, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) outreach.
  • Ensuring designs satisfy the facility's design requirements through compliance with local, state, and national codes, Owner contracts, and company best practices.
  • Champions a quality-first culture across the team.
  • Owns Basis of Design (BOD) development and RFI management for assigned projects and disciplines across wind, solar, BESS, and gas scopes.
  • Performs drawing and design reviews to ensure designs meet industry standards, Blattner's best practices and standards, and support safe work practices in the field.
  • Validates equipment and material quantity takeoffs; ensures accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Coordinates with other engineers and discipline leads to establish design schedules, resource plans, and cross-discipline coordination across the project portfolio.
  • Performs contract and subcontract reviews and provides technical recommendations.
  • Escalates high-risk issues to Senior Manager and Director leadership as appropriate.
  • Leads coordination with Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Estimating, and Construction teams on equipment and material selection, vetting, and approval.
  • Supports project man-camp siting and development.
  • Partners with construction management teams to facilitate design understanding as construction commences; ensures field teams have the plans, quantities, and parameters needed to build.
  • Collaborates across company departments, vendors, and outside engineering firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, and increase efficiency.
  • Champions change management discipline — ensures scope changes, quantity changes, and design deviations are clearly documented, communicated through change narratives, and resolved at the appropriate level.
  • Leads formal lessons learned sessions; ensures findings are documented, distributed, and incorporated into future project work to continuously improve design quality.
  • Mentors, trains, and onboards Senior Engineers and Engineer I/II staff; builds skill sets through deliberate coaching, feedback, career development conversations, and work product review.
  • Supports managers with hiring and promotion decisions by participating in interviews and assessing talent.
  • Drives consistency in designs across multiple projects; works with the team to establish and enforce standard design approaches and details applicable across the portfolio.
  • Identifies and leads department initiatives to enhance processes, standards, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Sets goals and works with direct reports through the goal-setting process.
  • Performs in-depth constructability assessments on complex projects.
  • Communicates deliberately, intentionally, and purposefully in leadership, management, and technical spaces — with Owners, EOR teams, project engineering staff, and other internal stakeholders across all phases of work.
  • Adheres to the company's cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineers' code of conduct.
  • Solves problems using factual evidence and sustainable solutions that are safe, transparent, and documentable.
