About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, hands on Human Resources Manager to lead and deliver HR support for an innovative new initiative at NBCUniversal, with primary accountability for the Canadian workforce and a strong focus on Quebec. Based in Montreal, this role will partner closely with leaders and employees across highly specialized technical and creative teams to build, scale, and mature HR practices in a fast paced, evolving environment. Supporting employees across Canada and the United States, you will serve as the primary HR partner for your client group, providing strategic and pragmatic HR guidance across employee relations, labor relations, health and safety, talent planning, and workforce growth. This role is well suited for someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, exercising sound judgment, and translating business needs into effective HR solutions while building structure as the organization grows. As the lead HR partner for Canada, you will play a critical role in shaping the employee experience, ensuring compliance with Canadian and Quebec employment requirements, and coaching leaders through periods of growth and change. In addition, this role will contribute to cross border initiatives and act as a backup resource for U.S. based employees in close coordination with the U.S. HR team, with opportunities to broaden impact in a cross border context.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive professional HR experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration OR equivalent work experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Quebec employment law and Canadian HR practices
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Bilingual in French and English, with the ability to communicate fluently (written and verbal) in both languages to support employees and candidates in Quebec, across Canada, and within the United States
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and advise leaders on people management practices, including performance management, feedback, and employee development
  • Partner with leaders on workforce planning, role design, and scaling strategies aligned to business needs
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring strategies for competitive, specialized talent markets (e.g., software development, machine learning, digital production, design)
  • Support immigration processes for international employees, including work permits and relocations, in coordination with external counsel and internal stakeholders
  • Lead compliance with Quebec agencies and regulatory requirements, including CNESST, the Office de la langue Française, Revenu Québec, and Retraite Québec, ensuring adherence to the Charter of the French Language across HR operations such as employee communications, policies, workplace signage, and francization obligations
  • Provide guidance on employment standards, leaves, terminations, and workplace requirements
  • Administer and manage employee leaves in accordance with Quebec and federal requirements (e.g., CNESST, QPIP, medical and parental leaves), including tracking, documentation, and coordination with payroll and benefits
  • Lead or support occupational health and safety programs, including prevention plans, incident reporting, and return-to-work coordination as required under CNESST
  • Maintain accurate employee records in compliance with privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25)
  • Ensure documentation and communications are available in both English and French, as required
  • Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, corrective action, performance improvement, and conflict resolution, exercising sound judgment to address complex workplace issues in a proactive and constructive manner
  • Work with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment; serve as an employee advocate
  • Interpret and implement HR policies, practices, and procedures that further the mission, values, and strategic vision of the business
  • Support change management efforts by ensuring leaders and employees are informed, prepared, and supported through transitions
  • Collaborate closely with the U.S.-based HR Director and broader HR team to align policies, processes, and employee experience across regions
  • All other duties as assigned
