About The Position

Toronto Hydro is seeking a dynamic and strategic Manager, HR Business Partners to lead a team of HR professionals delivering talent and employee relations strategies that support organizational effectiveness and business performance. Reporting to the Director, HR Business Partners, this role partners closely with business leaders to address workforce challenges, support operational priorities, and deliver people solutions that enable organizational success. As a trusted advisor, the Manager, HR Business Partners takes a proactive and forward-thinking approach to workforce challenges and opportunities. Combining strong business acumen, critical thinking, and expertise in labour relations and talent management, they provide strategic guidance on complex workplace matters, support organizational change, and help leaders achieve sustainable business outcomes. They are energized by solving problems, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and helping leaders build high-performing, engaged teams. The successful candidate is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive human resources experience, including talent acquisition, onboarding, succession planning, employee and labour relations, and the leadership of teams or major projects.
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation preferred.
  • Master's degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams, and/or leading complex cross-functional projects and initiatives strongly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources best practices, including talent acquisition, talent management, job design, employee and labour relations, grievance administration, performance management, and collective bargaining.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable labour and employment legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and practices.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong business partnerships and influence decision-making at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and consulting skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities with operational execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, coaching, development, performance management, and succession planning for a team of professionals and administrative support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and client service excellence.
  • Leads the delivery of talent acquisition, onboarding, job design, succession planning, career management, and employee and labour relations services, ensuring solutions align with business needs and organizational priorities.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to leaders, providing strategic guidance on talent management, employee and labour relations, organizational effectiveness, and people-related risks and opportunities.
  • Partners with leaders to understand business priorities, talent needs, and employee relations matters, providing strategic advice and implementing people solutions that support organizational objectives.
  • Leads talent acquisition strategies, recruitment plans, and hiring activities to ensure current and future talent needs are met.
  • Measures and monitors service delivery and client outcomes across all areas of support, acting as an escalation point to resolve complex issues and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and team development.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of talent management and employee and labour relations programs and initiatives.
  • Leads business unit and departmental projects and initiatives in support of People & Culture strategies and organizational priorities.
