About The Position

Responsible for the overall direction and management of the operations (technical performance, personnel, education, training, and administrative functions) of a single non-tertiary Hospital Laboratory and associated patient centers/branch laboratories. This role involves coordinating activities with other areas of the organization and with internal and external customers to ensure that financial, regulatory, and quality standards are met. The Manager will work closely with the Director and Medical Director regarding decisions on matters relating to patient care, technical performance, quality, and finances. Travel on a regular basis is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or relevant degree.
  • Five years clinical laboratory or specialty experience.
  • At least one year of management/supervisory experience.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent.
  • Must be insurable by TriCore’s automobile insurance.
  • Prove immunity to Hepatitis B or be immunized or sign a waiver refusing hepatitis immunization.
  • Provide documentation of a PPD test conducted not more than 90 days prior to date of hire or have a PPD test conducted.
  • Effective time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Department management and staff oversight, including supervision, hiring processes, performance evaluations, career development communication, disciplinary actions, and time record management.
  • Ensure supervisors (if applicable) are conducting staff coaching, recognition, counseling, and appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Be available to assist staff with questions and problem-solving, maintain communication channels, listen effectively to employee concerns, and solicit staff input.
  • Coordinate and conduct departmental staff meetings and attend relevant organizational meetings.
  • Consult with physicians, clients, and hospital staff regarding appropriate testing, test results, and interpretations.
  • Ensure new employees receive standardized orientation and training, and that staff are competent before working independently.
  • Prepare and submit annual budget proposals, ensure appropriate ordering of supplies/reagents, maintain appropriate staffing levels, review financial variances, and submit capital/contract requests.
  • Chair site-specific quality meetings, demonstrate ability to improve quality standards, evaluate customer needs, and implement new quality programs.
  • Lead, facilitate, and/or participate in Quality Management and process improvement teams.
  • Actively support and implement company and department procedures, policies, and strategies.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed, documenting variances as required.
  • Maintain inspection readiness and verify compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure patient, employee, and organizational confidentiality, and notify appropriate personnel of adverse patient events.
  • Ensure errors are reported and action plans for reports are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs, and files in an organized and retrievable manner.
  • Identify opportunities for new or improved services and present them for implementation.
  • Oversee assessment of department staffing levels, maximize efficiencies, and initiate requests for additional resources with cost justifications.
  • Participate in the development of RFP responses and new laboratory acquisitions.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Serve as a liaison to keep customers and staff informed of testing and service changes.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new requirements and technology through continuing education.
  • Coordinate to ensure test menus and services are consistent with hospital patient care and financial expectations.
  • Ensure Quality Control is performed, documented, and acceptable prior to patient testing.
  • Ensure technical performance of the laboratory is acceptable, including calibrations, validations, quality control, instrument maintenance, and temperature control.
  • Ensure proficiency testing is performed, evaluated, and corrective actions are taken.
  • Provide feedback and approval of new procedures.
  • Consult with medical staff and other healthcare providers on laboratory services.
