About The Position

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state. Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets. As a federal Crown corporation, Trans Mountain continues to build on more than 70 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system. With our expanded pipeline system now in place, Trans Mountain provides enhanced direct access for Canadian crude oil to world markets. Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as Manager, Health & Safety. In this position, you will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the corporate health and safety program including contractor oversight to ensure compliance and prevent serious injury or harm. This high impact position offers the opportunity to provide leadership, assurance, and expert advice to executives and workers to foster a strong safety culture across the organization.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Health & Safety, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive, relevant experience in the oil and gas industry; Midstream experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated H&S leadership capability with experience leading and guiding teams.
  • Experience promoting HOP (Human and Organizational Performance) mindset recognizing complex interactions of people and processes.
  • Incident investigation training with hands-on experience in emergency response and incident reporting.
  • Strong understanding of energy-based safety principles for preventing serious injuries.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain collaborative, trust-based relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels within organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
  • Collaborative leader with a passion for mentoring, coaching, fostering teamwork, and guiding others.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiar with leading safety best practices including those being studied by the Construction Safety Research Alliance
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Designations such as CRSP, CIH, CSP, OHT are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and Maintain Health & Safety (H&S) policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines aligned with legal requirements and recognized best practices.
  • Implement energy-based safety program with a focus on hazard assessment and critical controls.
  • Expand and implement Serious injury & fatality prevention program.
  • Ensure contractors meet organizational and regulatory safety requirements and provide safety assurance to monitor contractor safety performance.
  • Interpret and apply federal, provincial and state regulations and monitor changes in legislation and advise leadership on implications and required actions.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the H&S team while motivating team members to achieve common goals.
  • Build internal and external relationships to influence H&S program efforts with contractors and various stakeholders.
  • Manage health and safety program budgets, track costs and create and manage key safety performance indicators reporting to senior management.
