About The Position

This individual provides technical assistance and guidance in the preparation, submission, processing, and management of research grants and contract proposals, awards, and agreements for researchers within the institution/ department. Also, assures that the administration of sponsored programs related to research is in compliance with institutional, federal, state and private agency rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • 7+ years experience in grants management or closely relevant, preferably in health care or higher education
  • Excellent communication and ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet multiple competing deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently as well as within a team to problem solve and utilize resources
  • Quick study, adaptable and stays apprised of current institutional/sponsor policies
  • Intermediate/advanced Excel and Word skills

Nice To Haves

  • MBA in related areas preferred
  • a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experienced preferred
  • Administrative experience in an academic or research-oriented environment
  • possess the motivation and organizational skills needed to contribute in a cutting edge research environment
  • Strong background in grant administration/budgeting principles and practices
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience with NIH grants in an academic research environment
  • Prior experience with InfoEd is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with investigators on all aspects of the grant application process, including assisting with pre-award budget development, gathering supplemental materials, Other Support documentation, prior approval requests, post-award fund activation and progress reporting, as well as grant closeout procedures.
  • Reviews grant and contract proposal applications prior to submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Acts as a liaison with departmental administrators, faculty and extramural funding agencies (federal, state, local and non-profit organizations) to endorse any edits to the proposals prior to institutional endorsement.
  • Ensures that grants and contracts applications are submitted and routed to the appropriate committee (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Review Board, Bio-Safety Officer and Financial Conflict of Interest in Research Committee).
  • Reviews and provides supplemental (e.g. Just-In-Time, etc.) and amended information to extramural sponsors on grant applications.
  • May create and maintain computer documentation and appropriate files for proposal submissions/documentation, awards, and internal approvals.
  • Routine entry and maintenance of data and filing for all grants & contracts in the internal tracking systems and share drive.
  • May create and distribute funding opportunities packets, calendars and special alerts.
  • Performs other related duties.
