As the Manager, General Accounting and Tax, you will lead critical accounting, financial reporting, audit, and tax functions that help ensure the financial integrity and long-term success of Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. This role combines technical accounting expertise, leadership, and strategic problem-solving to support regulatory compliance, financial transparency, and sound business decision-making. You'll collaborate across the organization while guiding a talented accounting team and driving continuous improvement in financial processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), or Master of Accountancy.
  • Minimum of eight years of advanced accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, auditing concepts, and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, reports, and disclosures.
  • Manage annual external audits and serve as the primary liaison with auditors to ensure efficient and successful audit completion.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, RUS accounting regulations, tax laws, and internal financial controls.
  • Direct the preparation and review of income, sales, and property tax filings while identifying opportunities for proactive tax planning.
  • Research complex accounting and tax issues, provide technical guidance, and support strategic initiatives and special projects.
