About The Position

Fred Victor is seeking a Manager, Family Housing for a 9-month contract position. The Family Housing program provides a low-barrier, safe space housing for individuals experiencing deep poverty, chronic homelessness, and the long-term effects of trauma. The program serves a diverse group of tenants, including single adults, families, youth, and children who may be facing mental health challenges, fleeing domestic violence, actively using substances, experiencing addiction, social isolation, and come from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months management experience
  • Child Youth Care Degree (CYC), Child Youth Worker diploma (CYW), Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) diploma or ECE degree or diploma and be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) or have a or a combination of experience and related degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ combined experience in child and youth work and community service organization
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Harm Reduction, Restorative justice, Housing First, Trauma-Informed, and Anti-Oppression practices
  • Experience in supervising, managing, training and coaching staff in a unionized environment as well as developing and supporting peer positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with homeless and underhoused people; understanding of the issues of homelessness, poverty and discrimination facing this community and how these issues affect the lives of individuals.
  • Experience in developing and overseeing after school programming for children and youth and/or recreational programming.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of social inclusion and community capacity building.
  • Extensive experience working with families in community housing or shelter settings, who have experienced homelessness and poverty.
  • Strong understanding that people who are living on low incomes are a resource to resolve community issues and determine community direction.
  • Extensive experience working with people who come from diverse racial, gender, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and who have experienced varying degrees of mental health, social isolation, and substance use.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution or mediation.
  • Proven experience developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of The Steps to Success Child and Youth Program, focusing on homelessness prevention, housing and health stability, community development, and involvement for children and youth.
  • Provide after-school programming, summer camp programs, leadership development, and community awareness for children and youth.
  • Work with children, youth, and families who have experienced poverty, homelessness, social isolation, trauma, mental and physical health challenges, newcomers, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Support the Senior Manager of Family Housing in overseeing family housing buildings.
  • Provide direction and support to family housing workers.
  • Liaise with the facilities department and partner agencies.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the family housing buildings.
  • Implement a community development framework.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment focused on Housing First and Homelessness Prevention.
