About The Position

The Manager, Facilities Engineering supervises maintenance activities for facilities and infrastructures in a hardware manufacturing plant or site. Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics and Global Services supporting Caterpillar dealers and customers. Our teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM discipline AND 5 years of experience in maintenance or facilities management in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Cross-Team Integration: Understanding of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret performance metrics, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manufacturing Application Systems: Knowledge of company and industry databases and applications used in a manufacturing environment; ability to operate, maintain and update these systems.
  • Experience with SAP EAM/PM or another computerized maintenance management system.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
  • Plant Facilities Management: Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in engineering, business, or another related field.
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) credential.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, partners and suppliers to meet business goals in accordance with the sustainable use of facilities and budget demands.
  • Construct an efficient facility maintenance team and guides training sessions to ensure quality performance.
  • Evaluate the operation's effectiveness with current utilities and equipment; provides appropriate solutions to challenges and risks.
  • Oversee inspections, repairs and updates of facilities and relevant operational activities; maintains order at the facility.
  • Responsible for the strategic planning, reliability, operation, and maintenance of the material handling automation in the Morton DC.
  • Lead the Morton DC Maintenance organization through a team of shift supervisors, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and development for supervisors, salaried staff, and hourly skilled trades across all shifts, including weekend coverage.
  • Lead the maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management of material handling automation, including conveyor and sortation, ASRS crane systems, robotic cells, self-driving vehicles, vertical lifts, racking, box building and automated packaging machines, and warehouse control and PLC systems.
  • Own equipment performance and OEE for the site, leading technical solutions to chronic downtime and partnering with operations to set and meet response time, repair time, and availability targets that support warehouse throughput.
  • Develop and execute multi-year capital plans, asset replacement strategies, and business cases that improve reliability, reduce operational risk, enhance safety, and support PSLD transformation, technology, and network efficiency initiatives.
