About The Position

As the Manager, Facilities & Building Services, you are a key support leader accountable for ensuring the physical environment and infrastructure of the Vancouver store and Support Office operates safely, efficiently, and attractively. This role acts as the bridge between the retail store front line, store management, and the Support Office Facilities team. Reporting to the General Manager, you support routine maintenance, coordinate with external contractors, complete general upkeep and repairs, ensure workplace health and safety compliance, and support the physical logistics that impact daily retail staff and members. You adapt to the fast-paced retail environment by pivoting focus and project scope to respond to immediate business needs.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of building systems and basic knowledge of hand/power tools, with the ability to lift 22.7 kg (50 lbs)

Responsibilities

  • Report, receive, track, and action all repair and maintenance requests for the Vancouver store and Support Office building, in collaboration with store management and the Support Office Facilities team
  • Support programmed building maintenance from contracted vendors, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner
  • Conduct daily or weekly walkthroughs of the building and grounds to check for facility hazards, maintenance issues, and security concerns
  • Monitor building condition and execute basic fixes (e.g., changing lightbulbs, power washing, patching/painting drywall), escalating larger concerns to and collaborating on solutions with the Facilities team
  • Spearhead store cleanliness standards that go beyond the scope of contracted cleaning vendors, proactively identifying and closing gaps so the store consistently presents at its best
  • Champion a culture of pride of place among store staff, engaging teams to take ownership of their spaces and reinforcing that a clean, well-kept environment is everyone's responsibility
  • Conduct regular cleanliness walkthroughs of high-traffic and high-visibility areas, addressing issues in real time and setting the standard for what "member-ready" looks like
  • Partner with store leadership to build cleanliness into daily routines and team habits, ensuring the store's presentation reflects positively on the member experience and the MEC brand
  • Liaise with vendors and the Facilities team when issues or additional maintenance needs arise
  • Respond to service calls and maintenance requests from building tenants, ensuring a professional and timely resolution
  • Monitor and adhere to the facilities budget in collaboration with the store operations team and Support Office Facilities team, ensuring service contracts are cost-effective and reviewing utility or repair expenditures
  • Partner with the store operations team to identify operational gaps related to the built environment and support with solutions, repairs, or process changes
  • Support the store operations team and JHSC in upholding health & safety standards according to company policy, ensuring compliance with provincial regulations, fire codes, and local municipal bylaws
  • Monitor the effectiveness of building security systems, conduct regular security patrols, and address and de-escalate aggressive behaviour, coordinating with local law enforcement if necessary
  • Play an active role in building sustainability initiatives

Benefits

  • The company offers a salary range of $60,000 to $75,000 dependent on skills and experience.
