About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Support Services, the Manager, Support Services (Manager) provides leadership and direction for staff in food services, overseas housekeeping standards, building maintenance, and service contract performance for the Iqaluit Health Services. The Manager assumes responsibility for decisions related to department management including responsibility for an operating budget, capital, asset budget preparation, service specifications, supervisory leadership and direction of the department staff. The position has advanced knowledge in housekeeping; laundry and linen; staff safety; WHMIS and infection control procedures and understanding of legislation related to fire and safety and building codes. The Manager must comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and will be responsible for Hospital fire drills and assists with the coordination of the internal disaster plan.

Requirements

  • A recognized Post-Secondary education in a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in environmental or Support Services.
  • Two (2) years in management or supervisory role, preferably in healthcare setting.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in Environmental Services Leadership
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Responsibilities

  • Managing, administering, and evaluating the delivery of hospital-based Environmental Service programs to provide effective and quality services.
  • Advising the hospital Senior Management Team on strategic planning initiatives for Environmental Services.
  • Assisting in the development of departmental goals and objectives, as well as evaluation and monitoring processes to ensure performance standards and service quality are maintained.
  • Planning and organizing services while providing support and assistance to Food Services and Housekeeping departments.
  • Authorizing expenditures and monitoring monthly budgets and purchase reports, providing explanations and justifications for variances in operating costs.
  • Representing Environmental Services on various internal and external committees and assisting in the delivery of Code Response education sessions for Qikiqtani General Hospital (QGH) staff.
  • Working under the guidance of the Infection Control Practitioner to ensure infection control practices are implemented and adhered to.
