About The Position

This position oversees the department of Environment Health and Safety (EHS), and Emergency Management to ensure compliance and implementation of health and safety programs for all employees, staff, and others (the workforce) across the Seattle Children's Enterprise. Under the direction of the Vice President, Facilities and Capital Projects collaborate and consults with Risk Management, Workforce Health & Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, Facilities Management, and Patient Safety Departments. This position interfaces with external State government agencies such as Washington Labor & Industries and Ecology, Washington State Fire Marshall, Seattle Fire Department, and leads in the NIAHO® Accreditation Requirements for the Physical Environment for compliance as well as other programs such as hearing conservation, ergonomics and respiratory protection to maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and families. The position champions a culture of safety and excellence by collaborating with the Quality and Safety team to share and implement best practices throughout Seattle Children's. The manager collaborates with organizational leaders to achieve the mission and goals of the employee health and safety program and utilizes methodologies such as the IHI Model for Improvement and Continuous Innovation and Improvement (CII) to drive excellence in clinical care and service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or related healthcare field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership/management role.
  • Experience developing and providing safety training or other adult education, and/or public speaking.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health or related healthcare field.
  • Designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or other applicable certification in environmental health, life safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • At least five (5) years related experience in safety and compliance, with 2 years in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA/WISHA, Joint Commission, HCFS, EPA and other regulatory or professional standards agencies), and compiling compliance documentation.
