Responsibilities

  • Champion ENMAX's Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) philosophy across all operational groups by building error-tolerant systems, learning teams, and leadership practices that treat error as normal and prioritize learning over blame.
  • Lead adoption of the Safety Classification and Learning (SCL) model and a high-energy hazard focus, classifying work and events by their serious-injury-and-fatality (SIF) potential, embedding energy-based hazard recognition, and verifying that direct controls are in place for high-energy exposures.
  • Advance proactive engagement and leading-indicator programs such as field presence, safety interactions, learning teams, good catches and worker-led problem solving that surface and resolve risk before incidents occur.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance and implementation of ENMAX's safety management system across all operational groups, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Oversee process safety and operational or critical-risk management across high-hazard facilities, using barrier-based (bowtie) approaches and verifying that critical controls for major-accident and high-energy exposures are in place and effective.
  • Lead 24/7 incident response, investigation and learning reviews, applying HOP-aligned learning-team methods along with systemic and root-cause analysis, driving corrective actions to closure, and sharing significant learnings enterprise-wide.
  • Ensure consistent use of ENMAX's safety reporting systems (e.g., Maximo) and processes, supporting data quality and governance so that accurate, timely safety performance reporting, pairing modern leading and SIF measures with traditional indicators, is available to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate ENMAX's operational perspective on safety policy with government agencies and industry organizations (e.g., the Canadian Electricity Association), and support internal and external safety audits through to closure.
