About The Position

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University is excited to accept applications for a Manager Enterprise Business Applications position. This role provides portfolio-level leadership for enterprise applications supporting university business and administrative functions. The position is accountable for portfolio strategy, governance, budgeting, workforce planning, executive reporting, vendor management, and the overall health of the application portfolio. The manager leads team supervisors and select individual contributors while delegating day-to-day operational and technical execution to those teams. The position ensures the portfolio remains secure, reliable, sustainable, and aligned with institutional priorities through long-term planning, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Team Supervisors and individual contributors, establishing expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings, coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development planning.
  • Coordinate staffing, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Establish long-term application portfolio strategy, roadmaps, modernization priorities, and lifecycle plans.
  • Direct portfolio governance and investment priorities with business stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, data, and integration standards.
  • Establish and monitor portfolio performance metrics and service health.
  • Direct priorities across application teams and resolve cross-portfolio conflicts.
  • Serve as the executive relationship manager for major campus partners.
  • Represent the portfolio in governance and strategic planning forums.
  • Manage strategic vendor relationships, renewals, performance reviews, and escalations.
  • Develop and manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
  • Plan future workforce capabilities and succession.
