Manager, Engineering Intelligence

$208,800 - $255,200

About The Position

As the Manager for the Engineering Intelligence (EI) team, your mission is to transform Redfin’s operational data into a strategic asset. While our Frameworks team helps us build and our SREs help us run, you will lead the function that ensures we learn and adapt. You will empower your team to connect the high-quality signals generated by our SREs—incidents, observability, and ownership—into a centralized, AI-driven intelligence layer. By leveraging AI to correlate disparate technical signals, you will move Redfin from reactive troubleshooting to a state of proactive system evolution. Your work will ensure that the manual wins of an embedded SRE today become the automated safeguards for every team tomorrow—allowing us to scale expertise globally and reclaim engineering velocity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • You delight in building high-performing teams and mentoring engineers into senior and lead positions.
  • You see passive logs and metrics as a proprietary moat.
  • You have a strong foundation in backend systems and experience leading production environments powered by ML or LLMs.
  • You are a leader who inspires your team to succeed.
  • You partner well with cross-functional peers and have a history of delivering best-in-class software through a healthy, motivated team.
  • Deep experience in Site Reliability Engineering and modern incident management practices, with a pragmatic perspective on applying AI to reduce incidents, automate operational toil, improve root cause analysis, and evolve reliability practices at scale.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI-driven reliability tooling, agentic workflows, or operational intelligence platforms is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and Advocate: Lead a multi-disciplinary SRE team (Data, Mobile, Backend, and Frontend). You are responsible for their career growth, fostering an environment where they can take risks and transition from manual support to building an intelligence-first culture.
  • Cultivate the "Guide" Philosophy: Help your engineers become technical mentors who meet foundational teams where they are. You will guide them in "sweeping the floors" to understand messy production issues deeply, then support them in codifying that wisdom into systemic safeguards.
  • Champion Constructive Respect: Ensure your team is a space where diverse technical perspectives are heard, and where every incident is treated as a collaborative learning opportunity rather than a failure.
  • Architect the Intelligence Layer: Define how we leverage AI to correlate signals across disparate stacks. You’ll build the "early warning systems" and automated guardrails that detect regressions in real-time, ensuring safety is an inherent property of our global delivery pipeline.
  • Scale Expertise through Automation: Move the organization from "hope-based" deploys to automated resilience. You will focus on codifying SRE wisdom into tools that allow every team at Redfin to benefit from high-level diagnostic insights without increasing manual toil.
  • Partner Hand-in-Hand: Collaborate closely with Frameworks and AI Tooling to ensure engineering intelligence is the core engine of our workflow. Your goal is to turn passive logs and metrics into a proprietary moat that makes the entire organization smarter with every ship.
  • Continuously Evolve the Engagement Model: Regularly assess and refine how Engineering Intelligence partners across the organization, adapting team workflows, responsibilities, and operating models to maximize impact as reliability needs and AI capabilities evolve.
