About The Position

In this exempt position, the Manager, Engineering Design reports directly to the Deputy Director of Engineering (Design & Construction) within the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination, design, and Engineer of Record duties for in-house engineering design projects. Projects include watermains, storm and sanitary sewers, intersection signals, sanitary and drainage pump stations, and roadway infrastructure. Responsibilities include reviewing contract documents, developing engineering designs, preparing and sealing record drawings, reviewing engineering specifications, and preparing project schedules and budgets. The role also involves conducting field inspections to ensure work is completed in accordance with contractual requirements, applicable regulations, and municipal standards. The Manager, Engineering Design is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner while maintaining a high standard of quality. Community engagement and stakeholder consultation within a fast-paced and challenging environment are key components of this position. The ideal candidate is a high-performing, driven, and self-motivated professional with extensive experience delivering capital projects from conception through completion. A proven track record of leading new initiatives while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders with diverse interests is considered an asset. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of industry best practices and demonstrated experience applying sound engineering judgement to develop practical solutions to complex municipal engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering degree with a Professional Engineering designation.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience in leading engineering projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be in good standing with Engineering and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
  • Expertise in transportation, roads, and underground utility design or a related field.
  • Class 5 driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a consultant and/or in the public sector on municipal engineering projects is an asset.
  • Proven track record of leading new initiatives while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders with diverse interests.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience applying sound engineering judgement to develop practical solutions to complex municipal engineering challenges.
