Manager, Engineering (AI/ML/DE)
About The Position
The Data Science team at Clover improves the merchant experience by building AI, machine learning, and data engineering features into Clover products. The team develops AI/ML/data applications and the platform architecture needed to scale them. The Engineering Manager provides technical leadership for a team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and data engineers, and works closely with Product Management to develop AI products for Clover merchants. The role leads and mentors the team in developing end-to-end, customer-facing AI/ML and ETL applications and platforms. It also researches current AI/ML/data engineering techniques, collaborates with Product, Design, and Engineering on roadmaps, user experience, and technical infrastructure, and communicates the value and impact of the team’s work to leadership and broader audiences.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of industry experience leading teams of data scientists and machine learning engineers responsible for end-to-end customer-facing AI/ML applications and data infrastructure.
- At least 5 years of fluency in Python, REST APIs, AI/ML frameworks, modeling techniques, and model serving.
- At least 5 years of experience with data stores and technologies including relational databases such as MySQL and Snowflake; data pipelining tools such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, and ETL; NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Redis; object storage such as GCS; vector databases; CI/CD tools such as Docker and Jenkins; and serverless platforms such as Cloud Run and Functions.
- A strong, internally motivated mindset and ability to improve team capabilities in a rapid, iterative, thoughtful, proactive, organized, and empathetic manner.
- Effective written, visual, and verbal communication skills to convey complex concepts concisely to technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership.
Nice To Haves
- Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or physics, or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor data scientists, machine learning engineers, and data engineers developing end-to-end, customer-facing AI/ML and ETL applications and platforms.
- Research state-of-the-art AI/ML/data engineering techniques and incorporate them into the team’s best practices and design patterns.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering counterparts to shape the roadmap, user experience, and technical infrastructure.
- Quantify and communicate the value and impact of AI/ML applications and data engineering development work to leadership teams and broader audiences.
