About The Position

The Effector-Optics Department is seeking an Engineering Section Leader (Section Head) for the EO Integration and Test Section. The role is split between supporting EO programs as an engineer (approximately 85% of the work) and providing functional support to the section (approximately 15%). It is onsite in Tucson, Arizona. The Section Leader provides technical and functional leadership to section members, partnering with the Department Manager and other Section Leaders to align objectives with department and company priorities. The role supports hiring, staffing, workforce planning, employee development, cross-functional collaboration, and laboratory capabilities and operations. It also includes coaching employees and leading formal performance-development discussions. As an engineer, the position supports the development, qualification, integration, verification, and production transition of advanced electro-optical imaging systems. The work includes optical and electro-mechanical alignment, integration of detectors, optics, electronics, and firmware, system-level testing and data analysis, hardware troubleshooting, and support for qualification and production activities.

Requirements

A STEM degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience.
Experience leading a team, including performance discussions and career development.
Experience in electro-optical systems, imaging systems, system integration, or hardware test.
Experience with system-level integration and verification of complex hardware.
Experience analyzing and interpreting test data.
Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.
Ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date.

Nice To Haves

Advanced degree in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
Experience with infrared, visible, or multispectral imaging systems.
Experience integrating EO hardware and embedded electronics.
Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or C++ for data analysis and test automation.
Experience developing automated test scripts and data acquisition systems.
Hands-on experience with laboratory measurement equipment and environmental test setups.
Experience supporting products transitioning from development to production.

Provide leadership, guidance, and technical direction to EO section members, aligning section objectives with department and company priorities.

Support development, qualification, integration, verification, and production transition of advanced EO imaging systems.
Collaborate across optics, electronics, mechanical, and software disciplines to support subsystem integration, performance requirements, and production readiness.
Lead optical and electro-mechanical alignment, integration, and verification of EO imaging subsystems.
Integrate detectors, optics, electronics, and firmware into functional hardware assemblies.
Develop and execute system-level test plans, automated test processes, and data acquisition tools.
Analyze test data, develop performance models, verify requirements, and support root-cause investigations.
Design and maintain test fixtures and support equipment, and troubleshoot component- and system-level hardware issues.
Support qualification and production activities, including technical documentation, process improvements, yield enhancement, and technical reviews.
