Manager / Director of Operations

Skorpios Technologies•Temecula, CA

About The Position

Skorpios Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Fab Operations Manager or Director, depending on experience, to oversee day-to-day manufacturing execution across integrated production and technology-development wafer fabs. The role partners with two Fab Operations Managers and balances tool utilization and wafer throughput for mature, high-volume manufacturing with agility, engineering cycle time, and tool allocation for advanced technology development lots. Semiconductor industry experience is required. The position leads cross-functional shift teams and establishes real-time dispatching and work-in-process (WIP) management protocols. It supports production and development operations, capacity scheduling, tool utilization, yield and scrap reduction, workforce development, safety, and operational discipline across a 24/7/365 fab operation. Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled, open-cubicle setting with frequent interruptions and conversational noise. Occasional work in a manufacturing or cleanroom environment may be required. The facility operates under ITAR; applicants must meet the stated U.S.-person requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or equivalent operational experience.
  • At least 7 years of semiconductor wafer-fab manufacturing experience.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role in a 200mm or 300mm front-end cleanroom.
  • Semiconductor industry experience is required.
  • Proficiency with semiconductor MES platforms such as Applied Materials PROMIS/Fab300 or SiView, automated dispatching and scheduling tools such as RTD or APF, and SPC software.
  • Practical mastery of Theory of Constraints, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 8D root-cause problem solving.
  • Ability to make rapid, analytical operational trade-offs between high-priority R&D experiments and production delivery deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills to work with Process Integration, Yield, Equipment Maintenance, and Process Engineering.
  • Ability to use fab metrics—including moves per day, turn rate, tool MTBF/MTTR, scrap cost, and bottleneck capacity utilization—to guide operational decisions.
  • Meet ITAR U.S.-person requirements for access to covered technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Direct operational experience in an environment handling both pilot-line/R&D work and high-volume commercial production.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize line flow to balance standard-volume production commitments with rapid turn-time requirements for R&D, pilot runs, and engineering lots.
  • Implement dynamic WIP profiling and dispatching practices using MES and real-time dispatching systems to prevent line starvation and queue buildup at bottlenecks.
  • Enforce queue-time and shelf-life controls for sensitive process loops to prevent wafer scrap and rework.
  • Partner with Equipment Engineering to improve OEE, optimize recipe changeovers and furnace batch sizes, and reduce tool idling through track and stepper matching.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Industrial Engineering to align weekly wafer starts with bottleneck capacity and planned preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Establish rule-based tool reservation windows and lot-release cadences for development modules to prevent contention between engineering and production teams.
  • Co-lead root-cause investigations into misprocessing, yield excursions, and tool aborts, and ensure timely recovery and disposition of non-conforming WIP.
  • Work with Fab Operations Managers across shifts to direct, coach, and support fab teams operating 24/7/365.
  • Implement and maintain technician certification and cross-training matrices across functional modules.
  • Champion cleanroom safety, hazardous-material handling compliance, and cleanroom behavioral protocols.
  • Set and monitor KPIs for shift output, moves per tool, line linearity, and compliance; conduct performance evaluations and technical career-development planning.
