About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Destination Stewardship, the Manager, Destination Development is responsible for developing and executing the activation and visitor services plans and strategies. The Manager, Destination Development will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of tourism and event related projects, leading the activation of Tourism Regina events, travel content creation and distribution, and building strong relationships with a variety of key stakeholders in the tourism industry to grow engagement. As a member of the branch’s management team, the Manager leads and/or participates in Department or City-wide projects and special initiatives, often working closely with or on behalf of the Director, Destination Stewardship.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of core management practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement and management and human resources
  • Knowledge of specific issues, trends and challenges within the context of the broader Department and understanding of broader City operations
  • Knowledge of issues, trends and challenges related to broad City-specific and broader municipal operations as well as specifically in relation to the branch’s core mandate – tourism and marketing.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices to ensure consistency between responses provided via media, social media and the Service Regina call center
  • Knowledge of issues and challenges related to Regina’s unique value proposition and accompanying marketing strategies, including brand awareness, reputation, and managing customer facing communication
  • Knowledge in developing and implementing innovative event marketing, collaborations & organic content creation and management strategies
  • Knowledge of branding, social media, digital marketing trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communications principles.
  • Strong relationship management, project management, problem solving and change management skills.
  • Problems, issues and challenges are typically complex and operational/political in nature, affecting corporate reputation, and require a proactive approach to anticipate
  • Problems and challenges are generally across multiple functions / branches /City Departments and require consideration of longer-term scenario planning to assess cause and effect
  • The leadership role includes day to day oversight and guidance of supervisory staff as well as technical and professional roles
  • The Manager is responsible for Branch specific workforce planning.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and execution of the branch, destination development and event activation plan.
  • Leads the development of the branch’s organizational strategies including event activations, engagement initiatives, partner engagement, and corporate messages.
  • Ensures development of policies, systems and procedures across all areas of mandate.
  • Participates in the development of Tourism’s strategic planning process, develops, and implements the business plan to achieve the corporation’s short and long-term goals.
  • Provides input to the development of the Tourism Regina budget and ensures that there is timely and accurate forecasting and on-going analysis of the budget and ensures proactive mitigation strategies are developed and implemented.
  • Ensures that financial management practices are aligned with City standards and practices, and where necessary ensures development of Department-specific financial management practices.
  • Understands Visitor Service Team staffing requirements and staffs, trains, and manages team accordingly.
  • Supports the execution and development of the marketing, activation and visitor services plans and strategies.
  • Leads the execution of a visitor services strategy and ensures alignment, support, investment, and participation with key tourism stakeholders.
  • Implement the facilitation of training courses.
  • Adjusts and improves upon training based on stakeholder needs.
  • Contributes to the development of an annual branch-wide workforce plan with a focus on identification of the necessary human resources both in terms of capacity and competency.
  • Makes recommendations for succession planning, recruitment and retention strategies, training and development programs, and change initiatives for the department
  • Conducts performance planning for staff (goal setting, review and assessment) and ensures that performance process is complete for all Branch resources.
  • Provides direct leadership, mentoring, training and coaching of the Tourism Branch visitor services staff.
  • Monitors Branch culture and productivity, and intervenes when necessary.
