About The Position

The Functional Manager, Design Engineering, is responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and talent development of an engineering service function at a designated site. The role ensures efficient delivery of high-quality engineering services aligned with project requirements, company objectives, and industry best practices. The manager fosters a collaborative, innovative, customer-focused environment; drives continuous improvement and technical expertise locally and with the global functional team; and removes execution barriers across cross-functional groups. The manager oversees resource allocation, professional development, and direct reports, and scales department capabilities to meet expanding business needs. The Functional Manager facilitates, equips, oversees, and reviews engineering work rather than executing project engineering work directly. The position requires technical knowledge sufficient to provide oversight, along with leadership, project management, financial planning, communication, stakeholder-management, and quality-system capabilities. Duties are performed in a normal office environment and may involve occasional travel.

Requirements

  • More than 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Technical skills in the discipline sufficient to facilitate, equip, oversee, and review technical work.

  • Ability to manage or lead multiple engineering projects, including projects involving other functions, with understanding of technical, financial, and people aspects.
  • Ability to create project and change-management plans, recognize project risks, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Ability to create financial plans for the function and relevant projects, align plans internally and externally as needed, and understand internal and external financial reporting.
  • Communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; creative problem-solving; customer interaction and stakeholder-management skills; and quality-system knowledge and integration into programs and projects.
  • Ability to work in a normal office environment; duties may involve extended sitting, sustained visual concentration, and frequent repetitive manual movements such as data entry and computer use.
  • Must provide information after accepting employment to determine whether export-control exemptions or licenses are required, because the location is a US ITAR facility.
