The Manager of Storage, Database, Data Protection & DR is responsible for leading the strategy, design, implementation, and ongoing operations of the organization’s data infrastructure. This role ensures the availability, performance, security, and recoverability of enterprise data platforms, including storage systems, databases, backup, disaster recovery, and data protection technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with people leadership, vendor management, and operational excellence to support business-critical systems and data resilience. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of experience in storage, databases, or infrastructure engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of: Enterprise storage technologies, Relational and/or non-relational databases, Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions
  • Experience operating in large-scale, mission-critical environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of hybrid and multi-cloud data architectures
  • Familiarity with automation and infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Industry certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure, database, storage, or backup technologies)
  • Previous work history in healthcare
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven experience balancing operational stability with innovation
  • High attention to detail and risk management

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams responsible for storage, database administration, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Set goals, priorities, and performance expectations for team members
  • Manage staffing, budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation
  • Foster a culture of reliability, automation, security, and continuous improvement
  • Own the architecture and lifecycle management of enterprise storage platforms (SAN, NAS, object storage, cloud storage)
  • Ensure performance, scalability, and high availability across on-prem and cloud environments
  • Drive capacity planning and optimization initiatives
  • Oversee database platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, cloud databases)
  • Ensure database performance, availability, patching, and upgrades
  • Partner with application and development teams on database design and optimization
  • Design and maintain enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Ensure compliance with RPO/RTO requirements and conduct regular DR testing
  • Oversee data retention, archival, and recovery processes
  • Ensure ransomware resilience and cyber-recovery capabilities
  • Ensure data platforms meet security, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI as applicable)
  • Partner with Information Security teams on risk assessments and remediation
  • Enforce access controls, encryption, and secure configuration standards
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers
  • Oversee contracts, licensing, and support agreements
  • Collaborate with application, cloud, infrastructure, and business stakeholders
  • Establish operational standards, monitoring, and incident response processes
  • Drive automation, cloud adoption, and modernization initiatives
  • Contribute to long-term infrastructure and data platform strategy
