About The Position

A wholly owned subsidiary of Kuehne+Nagel Group, and headquartered in Windsor, Ontario Canada, Farrow brings to the global trade industry over 115 years of expertise in cross-border customs brokerage, trade consulting, and integrated logistics services. Further to its beginnings in customs brokerage, Farrow offers trade consulting — expert advice on import/export and trade management, duty recovery and regulations compliance. With a strong network of locations across North America, Farrow manages over 500 employees with 15 offices and warehouses, including those of acquired company Link+ Corporation. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the Customs - Dedicated Services department. Ensuring efficient and effective processing of client entries, this individual is responsible for developing and monitoring department procedures, identifying staffing resources and meeting client requirements to obtain highest standard of quality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation in good standing
  • More than 5 years progressive experience in Custom Brokerage
  • An additional 2 years at a supervisory level
  • Ability to manage and communicate professionally and effectively with people
  • Tactful when dealing with sensitive client issues and problems as well as advising clients and vendors of problems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to deal with staff on complex issues
  • Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work, as well as identifying the best people for the job
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard computer programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and general office equipment
  • Excellent analytical skills; able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and managing the operations of the Customs - Dedicated Services department.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective processing of client entries.
  • Developing and monitoring department procedures.
  • Identifying staffing resources.
  • Meeting client requirements to obtain highest standard of quality.
  • Responding to client inquiries, reviewing service issues and finding solutions.
  • Acting as the main client service representative for certain accounts.
  • Meeting with clients and communicating with their suppliers when necessary.
  • Developing, monitoring and maintaining processes and procedures to ensure the highest possible quality of service in release, trade compliance and import reporting.
  • Identifying client needs and developing solutions for these needs.
  • Attending management meetings and performing actions identified in these meetings to ensure the company’s goals and policies are met.
  • Providing guidance and training to employees on procedures and complex problems.
  • Keeping abreast of industry changes (e.g. CSCB, CAIE, CBSA) and advising staff and clients of relevant changes.
  • Maintaining employee records and attendance.
  • Evaluating and monitoring employee training and conducting performance reviews.
  • Assisting with rating, trade compliance and release functions if necessary.
  • Reviewing and preparing reports; making recommendations as necessary.
