About The Position

Toyota’s TMNA Corporate Accounting Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Manager, Corporate Accounting. The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee and lead the end-to-end accounting, reporting, and control environment for payroll, employee benefits, and company car and team member lease programs. This includes ensuring the accurate recognition of compensation-related expenses and liabilities across all areas. This role leads and develops a team of five team members, ensuring the timely and accurate execution of the monthly close process. The position is responsible for managing complex accounting matters, including benefits accruals and imputed income related to company related benefits. It also plays a key role in driving digital transformation initiatives, leveraging systems and automation to streamline processes, enhance data integrity, and improve overall efficiency. In addition, the role ensures strong internal controls, compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements, and alignment between financial reporting and underlying operational data. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting, the person in this role will support the Corporate Accounting’s department's objective of timely financial close and accurate reporting of financial information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 8+ years of accounting experience (in similar field and/or industry)
  • Mixture of public/private accounting experience
  • CPA License
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong US GAAP Knowledge
  • Strong leadership skills in taking the initiative to lead Kaizen efforts and change management
  • Broad financial analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of five accounting professionals
  • Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures
  • Supervise and review team deliverables and ensure high-quality, accurate output
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes, procedures and accounting assumptions on an ongoing basis. Recommend and assist in process improvements to improve the control environment and increase the utilization of resources (people, technology, funds)
  • Foster a culture of respect for people, continuous improvement, ownership, and collaboration
  • Oversee the timely and accurate execution of the monthly close process
  • Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Perform detailed flux analysis and investigate variances
  • Ensure payroll, benefits, and vehicle-related expenses are properly recorded and reported
  • Review and approve CONETS and lead the major reserves process
  • Oversee accounting for payroll transactions, including wages, bonuses, and payroll taxes
  • Ensure accurate payroll accruals and proper cut-off procedures
  • Reconcile payroll sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies
  • Partner with Payroll Operations for all payroll processing across all US-based entities
  • Manage accounting for employee benefits, including health & welfare and retirement plans
  • Own and manage the benefits allocation process across entities and cost centers, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and proper support
  • Perform detailed review of intercompany transactions related to benefits accounting, including allocations, eliminations, and reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of benefit-related expenses, liabilities, accruals, and intercompany billings across multiple participating affiliates. Partner with HR Benefits to validate data and resolve issues
  • Oversee accounting for company vehicle and team member lease programs
  • Ensure proper recording of vehicle-related expenses and employee imputed income
  • Maintain and review schedules supporting vehicle activity and allocations from Vehicle Services
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls (SOX)
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Support internal and external audits, including documentation and walkthroughs
  • Identify and remediate control gaps or process risks
  • Drive automation and process optimization initiatives to reduce manual work
  • Enhance utilization of financial systems (e.g., ERP, reconciliation tools)
  • Standardize processes, documentation, and controls across the function
  • Improve data integrity, reporting capabilities, and overall efficiency
  • Partner with Payroll Operations, HR Benefits, FP&A, Business Unit Finance, Financial Reporting, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment
  • Assist in providing guidance on accounting issues to business groups of the company as needed
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to payroll and benefits
