About The Position

At BNSF Railway, the Human Resource & Medical Department is dedicated to recruiting top talent, fostering employee development, and ensuring the health and well-being of our employees. The Manager Compensation and HRIS (individual contributor) role offers a unique opportunity to lead both compensation strategy and HR technology innovation at BNSF. This position analyzes market trends, guides pay decisions, and manages key compensation programs while also collaborating across HR, IT, and business teams to deliver and maintain technology solutions that strengthen our employee experience and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in HR technology, HR, compensation, or related fields.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel features like pivot tables, lookups, and sophisticated formulas.
  • Experience analyzing data, generating insights, and making recommendations.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and make decisions independently
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a changing business environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience working with Success Factors, preferably Employee Central and/or Compensation module
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Information Systems, Technology, or related field.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or other compensation-related certification
  • Strong knowledge of compensation practices and programs including job analysis, job evaluation, and salary structuring
  • Demonstrated experience configuring, implementing, or supporting HR technology

Responsibilities

  • Initiate projects that support BNSF’s ability to attract and retain talent through competitive compensation programs
  • Assess compliance, risk and cost of various compensation programs and decisions
  • Analyze market data, review job documentation, and make compensation recommendations to maintain internal and external equity across all aspects of compensation
  • Serve as subject matter expert to stakeholders across BNSF
  • Analyze complex data to understand industry/market trends and the corresponding financial impact and make appropriate recommendations to team leaders and business partners
  • Manage annual compensation initiatives such as the merit increase process, incentive programs, salary survey submissions, and internal audits
  • Regularly partner with IT to implement or enhance compensation-related technology platforms
  • Analyze and prepare reports for internal stakeholders as needed
  • Provide day-to-day compensation support
  • Manage and optimize HR technology solutions
  • Partner across HR, IT, and vendors to enhance functionality, automation, and overall system value.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues by analyzing root cause and partnering with end users and technical teams
  • Ensure data accuracy and governance through routine audits, validation processes, data corrections, and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Lead and participate in testing for releases, enhancements, and integrations.
  • Maintain clear, sustainable documentation for configurations and processes.
  • Support system security and risk management through adherence to strong access and audit controls.
  • Provide expert support and training to drive adoption and effective system use.
