About The Position

This is a full-time, exempt position for a Manager, Community Branch at the Eagle Branch. The schedule will vary, including a combination of day, evening, and weekend hours. The role involves hiring, training, and evaluating staff and volunteers, directing community services and programs, managing the collection, overseeing branch maintenance and security, developing neighborhood partnerships, providing information and instruction to patrons, collecting and analyzing library data, and managing the department budget. The successful candidate must have an MLS degree, Indiana Librarian Certification 2 (Branch or Department Head), and 3 to 5 years of previous library experience, including experience developing partnerships and overseeing service plans and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains and evaluates performance management for assigned personnel and volunteers.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings to communicate information to staff, listens to staff concerns and reports them to senior management as appropriate.
  • Directs the plans for services and programs for the community; schedules, delivers and evaluates programs based on feedback from participants, changing demographics, customer needs and interests.
  • Directs staff in maintenance of the collection.
  • Recommends new materials, organizes displays to promote the collection, and evaluates and discards damaged or lesser used titles.
  • Oversees maintenance and security of branch building and grounds.
  • Monitors patron behavior and informs patrons of library guidelines.
  • Develops appropriate partnerships with neighborhood groups and maintains a library presence in the community through presentations, e-mail, and other publicity; maintains communication with Digital Media staff.
  • Provides information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, or by referral to other libraries or community sources.
  • Instructs patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment.
  • Collects and analyzes data on library use, services, trends and community resources.
  • Oversees department budget.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
