About The Position

This position manages strategic communications for the School of Medicine (SOM), advancing its tripartite mission of research, education and clinical care. This role is responsible for developing plans and messages that strengthen engagement, transparency, alignment, and trust across a diverse internal audience of faculty, staff, trainees and students. Designs and implements internal communications strategies to ensure strategic, timely, and relevant communications to faculty, staff, trainees and students. Serves as a strategic advisor to department or Dean's office leadership, providing counsel on communication efforts that drive engagement, trust and organizational alignment. Ensures consistency in tone, voice and messaging architecture across departments and audiences. Monitors and shares best practices and trends in internal communications. Develops and implements comprehensive communications strategies aligned with the department or unit goals and priorities. Serves as a trusted communications advisor to senior leadership, including department chairs and Dean's office leaders. Ensures brand consistency, editorial quality and message alignment across all platforms. Tracks key metrics and reports on communications impact and effectiveness to the director of communications and to key business partners in the SOM. Produces and edits high-quality content, to include articles, announcements, speeches, newsletters, and leader messages. Translates complex scientific, medical and educational topics into accessible, engaging narratives. Identifies and elevates stories highlighting research discovery, clinical innovations, and achievements of students, trainees, faculty and staff. Builds and maintains strong relationships with key leaders, faculty and staff in assigned areas to ensure understanding of department or unit goals, objectives, priorities and challenges. Collaborates with colleagues across the broader SOM and Emory Healthcare team, including internal communications, marketing, digital, social and media relations, to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting assigned departments/units. May collaborate with communications teams at institutions including Grady Health System, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Georgia Tech to promote joint accomplishments and initiatives. Performs related responsibilities as require. Manage strategic communications that advance the education component of the school’s tripartite mission. Develop and implement plans and messages that strengthen engagement and trust among learner audiences. Develop and manage content across multiple platforms highlighting Emory's unique differentiators among medical education programs. Serve as a strategic communications advisor to Executive Associate Dean of Medical Education and Student Affairs and the broader education leadership team. In partnership with the Emory Healthcare marketing team, oversee messaging and external positioning related to the school’s educational programs. Serve as primary point of contact on School of Medicine communications team for any education-related marketing efforts. Develop and maintain an understanding of the landscape and trends in higher education, particularly among graduate and professional programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field
  • Four years of marketing, writing/research, project management or related experience.
  • Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of publishing and other related software.
  • Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations or educational programs and communications materials.
  • Excellent writing and project management skills.
  • Residency in the state of GA.
