About The Position

nCino is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their Cloud Infrastructure team within the Technology Platform group. This role is responsible for the design, development, and operational excellence of infrastructure supporting multiple business units. The infrastructure is AWS-based and heavily utilizes Kubernetes, ECS, and RDS. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring deep experience with these technologies. The manager will provide architectural guidance, assist with complex troubleshooting, and act as a technical resource and thought partner to the engineering team. The role emphasizes platform thinking, building reusable infrastructure capabilities, enabling faster development, and reducing operational burden. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering other teams, building reliable foundations, and balancing strategic direction with technical execution, while also coaching and developing engineers and collaborating with peers. Strong communication, a bias for action, and a mindset for continuous improvement are essential.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience and 2+ years of management experience or combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in more than one major programming language.
• Deep understanding of the foundation of software engineering principles, including system design, architecture, and development practices.
• Proven success in a fast-paced development environment, with a focus on improving development practices and processes to enhance team efficiency, collaboration, and code quality in a large-scale organization.
• Proven success as a coach and mentor of technical staff.
• Ability to motivate yourself and others, prioritize your own work, and adapt and thrive in a dynamic team environment.
• Excellent problem solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Hands-on experience with AWS-native infrastructure, including ECS, RDS and EKS.
• Experience building and operating internal developer platforms or shared infrastructure capabilities.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK or equivalent) and CI/CD automation.
• Demonstrated application of SRE principles.
• Familiarity with cloud security and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements roadmaps, resourcing, project scheduling and oversight, and process improvements for team and function.
• Identifies gaps and sets technical strategy for the team.
• Participates in cross-functional initiatives and leadership meetings.
• Drives the evolution of engineering standards and practices across the department.
• Provides technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, identifying individual growth needs for engineers.
• Accomplishes results through professional employees by setting project timelines, priorities based on project objectives, and oversight of ongoing assignments.
• Attracts, selects, and retains high-level talent through active participation in performance management and professional development of team members.
• Leverages AI tools and techniques to enhance software development activities, including code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization.
• Applies AI insights to identify patterns, automate repetitive tasks, and improve overall development efficiency and product quality.
• Evaluates and integrates AI/ML capabilities where appropriate to strengthen product functionality and user experience.
• Maintains awareness of emerging AI trends and best practices to inform continuous learning and innovation.
