About The Position

The Manager, Clinical Operations is responsible for periop anesthesia and psa technicians, administering patient services, acting as liaison between physicians and nurses, and serving on various committees. Provides guidance and direction to technicians and coworkers to ensure smooth processes, quality, and excellent customer service. The duties contribute to the effort to further the mission of UAMS: To improve the health and health care of Arkansans. This is a salaried position with an expectation to potentially take the occasional call during off duty hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) year’s experience as hospital technician or administration, or High School Diploma and six (6) years hospital technician or administration experience.
  • Basic Life Support Provider Certification within first 90 days of hire.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day-to-day OR/periop flow (pre-op, OR, PACU coordination).
  • Ensures cases run efficiently (on-time starts, turnover times, scheduling flow).
  • Oversees anesthesia techs, periop support staff, and workflows.
  • Troubleshoots operational issues in real time (delays, staffing gaps, equipment).
  • Supervises perioperative staff (techs, coordinators, sometimes RNs depending on structure).
  • Handles staffing, scheduling, performance management, and coaching.
  • Supports hiring, onboarding, and competency development.
  • Fosters teamwork across surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing.
  • Helps resolve conflicts or inefficiencies between teams.
  • Monitors outcomes (complications, delays, cancellations).
  • Leads or support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Implements workflow improvements and efficiency strategies.
  • Ensures availability and cost-effective use of surgical resources.
  • Collaborates with supply chain teams that manage thousands of OR items.
  • Monitors labor and supply utilization to stay within financial goals.
  • Develops and updates perioperative policies and procedures.
  • Maintains documentation and audit readiness.
  • Supports periop education (e.g., onboarding, AORN standards).
  • Participates in committees and organizational initiatives.
  • Helps implement new systems (e.g., Epic Optime, preference cards, scheduling tools).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
