This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines. Your role Media Presentation is a department that presents over 2.5 million hours of content on all CBC /Radio Canada platforms. Its CBC (English services) division is located in Toronto and its Radio-Canada (French services) division is located in Montreal. CBC Media Presentation comprises the following major areas (Radio Presentation, TV Presentation, Digital Presentation, Master Control and Content Preparation). The role of Manager of CBC TV Presentation and Master Control is based in Toronto and oversees related operations including the playout, monitoring and delivery of English Services content across all CBC owned and partner platforms. Reporting to the Senior Director of Media Presentation, the Manager of CBC Media Presentation is accountable for TV presentation and master control operations in Toronto and oversees local presentation operations supervisors and all related operations. This is a key management role, which directly influences presentation activities and operations for CBC.

Requirements

  • University degree in Radio & TV Arts, Broadcasting, Communications or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in broadcast and/or related industry.
  • Excellent, people-oriented managerial skills.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a managerial role or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of TV broadcasting, presentation and acquisition.
  • Knowledge of CBC distribution patterns, the significance and impacts associated with these patterns including blackouts and partial pre-emptions.
  • An extensive knowledge of the CBC TV program schedule and an excellent understanding of all operations and how they impact Media Solutions (Sales & Marketing) and the Communications department’s ability to successfully air and bill customers is required.
  • Good understanding of production, broadcast marketing, advertising and technologies including digital technologies.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Ability to work diligently and independently to manage day to day issues on both a reactive and proactive basis.
  • Detailed knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office products, electronic mail and other software packages.
  • Creativity in the development of new procedures, work methods and operating standards.
  • Experience in project deployment and knowledge of change management.
  • Ability to analyze data to inform decisions.
  • Possesses critical thinking skills and innovative problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and listening).
  • Diplomacy, tact and good negotiation skills are essential.
  • Ability to influence senior level customers.
  • Strong managerial skills are also required in directing a large and diverse group of staff through an inclusive lens.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Managing resources and services to support TV Presentation and Master Control.
  • Evaluating and assessing resources to ensure staffing levels accommodate operating requirements.
  • Developing and implementing, managing and overseeing the distribution, presentation, maintenance, preservation and technical quality of content on all TV platforms.
  • Developing partner support strategies and operating guidelines for current and newly acquired broadcast services and directing implementation across multi-tiered platforms.
  • Collaborating and negotiating with partners and internal departments to obtain maximum flexibility in meeting goals, deadlines, commercial feed extensions, timely confirmations, etc.
  • Executing strategic plans for presentation in collaboration with either the Senior Director, their delegate or colleagues.
  • Working with the Senior Director to ensure overall strategies and objectives are being achieved.
  • Establishing hiring criteria, identifying performance indicators and developing, mentoring and coaching staff.
  • Ensuring the consistent application of Corporate, Industry and CRTC guidelines, regulations and standards.
  • Maximizing opportunity for revenue retention and monitoring commercial inventory delivery and distribution.
  • Coordinating effective resolutions with Media Solutions (Sales & Marketing), Transmission and Communications departments.
  • Working with the Senior Director or delegate to develop plans to minimize operating expenses (e.g. overtime during Hockey Playoffs, special A & E programs, Olympics, Canada Day, etc.) without jeopardizing the quality of the execution or success of the advertising campaign.
  • Participating as a representative or lead on special projects.
  • Analyzing, researching and developing solutions and implementation plans.
  • Managing, reviewing and analyzing metrics and analytics to inform operations decisions.
  • Creating and developing management reports to assist in monitoring and tracking TV Presentation and Master Control issues and to table related concerns.
  • Implementing best practices for their team by identifying opportunities to improve the quality of experience for audiences and improve overall effectiveness and efficiency within the department.
  • Keeping up to date on developments within presentation and related technologies.
  • Collaboration with other colleagues in the team especially managers responsible for corresponding functions for Radio-Canada.
