About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Manager, Benefits & Retirement Plans is responsible for the design, administration, and governance of the organization’s benefits and retirement programs. This role ensures competitive, compliant, and cost-effective offerings that support employee well-being, financial security, and organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in benefits, pensions, and/or disability/leave management.
  • Strong knowledge of group benefits, retirement programs, and leave/disability frameworks.
  • Experience with multi-site or complex organizational environments.
  • Strategic thinking with strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Vendor management and negotiation expertise.
  • Deep understanding of compliance and regulatory environments.
  • Employee experience and well-being focus.
  • Ability to manage complex, sensitive cases with discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • CEBS or similar designation considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the organization’s health, wellness, and insurance programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability).
  • Lead annual benefits renewal and plan design process, ensuring market competitiveness and alignment with talent strategy.
  • Benchmark benefits programs and recommend enhancements based on market trends and employee needs.
  • Drive well-being initiatives, including physical, mental, and financial wellness programs.
  • Oversee defined contribution pension and retirement plans.
  • Manage governance, compliance, reporting, and regulatory obligations for pension and retirement plans.
  • Partner with actuaries, trustees, and consultants on valuations, funding, and investment-related matters (as applicable).
  • Lead employee communication and education on retirement programs.
  • Oversee Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), and related income protection programs in partnership with insurers.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable employment standards, human rights, and disability legislation for disability management.
  • Lead relationships with benefits, insurance, disability, and pension providers.
  • Manage vendor performance, contracts, and service-level agreements.
  • Conduct RFPs and negotiate renewals to ensure cost-effectiveness and service quality.
  • Analyze claims and utilization data to identify cost-containment and program optimization opportunities.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable legislation (benefits, pensions, leave, tax, and regulatory requirements).
  • Monitor changes in legislation and industry standards and adjust programs accordingly.
  • Maintain governance frameworks and documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Oversee benefits, pension, and leave administration processes and systems.
  • Ensure accurate data management, enrollments, and payroll integration.
  • Continuously improve processes, automation, and self-service capabilities.
  • Lead and develop benefits/leave team members (as applicable).
  • Provide executive reporting and insights on program performance, cost, and risk.
  • Partner with HRBPs, Payroll, Legal, and Finance to align programs with business needs.
