Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as a minimum of two years of professional experience for each year of college requested.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing multiple shop locations required.
  • Ability to plan and set goals.
  • Knowledge of shop operations and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, AS400, and Maintenance Systems software.

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy Truck Maintenance Industry Certifications (ASE, OEM’s, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a group of maintenance facilities, dedicated vendors, and yards that are strategically aligned to ensure standardization/consistency in process and procedure of maintenance shop operations.
  • Ensures all the assigned shop personnel are properly trained and performing the job functions properly.
  • Ensures all preferred vendors in region are meeting company requirements.
  • Drive and implement business plan for area of responsibility by managing scheduling and staffing in order to achieve facility and company goals (e.g. productivity, quality, safety) and implement operational improvements.
  • Direct, supervise, and manage employees and leaders in area of responsibility by giving direction, monitoring performance, and providing feedback; identifying training and developmental needs and providing opportunities for learning and growth; teaching, supporting, and modeling company policies and procedures; and participating in the hiring, coaching, teaching, and evaluation of employees, leaders, and managers.
  • Assess workload of shops and ensure a plan is in effect to get equipment back to Operations in a timely manner.
  • Work with managers on the man power/staffing need to optimize shop space. Review Shop Schedules.
  • Perform shop, dedicated accounts, and vendor audits quarterly and make sure processes are in place.
  • Review key factors and shop P&L for locations, review with managers.
  • Review all techs and managers evaluations and make pay increase recommendations.
  • Review all locations and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations is achieved and maintained.
  • Ensure that all safety programs are in place and that all OSHA and technical training is being completed.
  • Monitor and ensure area of responsibility’s compliance with company quality and safety standards, policies, procedures, directives, and government regulations by developing, distributing, and/or maintaining procedures and supporting documentation (e.g. conduct periodic audits).
  • Look at outsource costs and work to reduce costs and frequency of repair.
  • Monitors and manages productivity (e.g. direct labor, standard repair times (SRT) for area of responsibility by preparing or reviewing reports.
  • Identify and ensure employee, customer, and/or supplier concerns are resolved, using established procedures, own judgment, or consulting others when needed.
  • Review repair orders, records, logs and other written or computer based documents according to established procedures with employees ensuring quality standards are met (e.g. charge parts/lubes, account for time, PM Forms, verify warranties).
  • Manage, prepare, and review all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the shop operation and improve areas above and below goals.
  • Travel to multiple facilities or work sites requiring both single and multiple day stays.
  • Work with corporate management on identifying and establishing preferred dedicated vendors.
  • Train dedicated vendors on proper US Xpress repair procedures. Ensure vendors are adhering to USX repair procedures and best practices.
  • Identify areas of cost savings and downtime reduction with preferred dedicated vendors.
  • Submittal of Area Manager’s Weekly Report summarizing highlights, concerns, and objectives. Provides plan for next week on scheduled meetings and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
