About The Position

Located at the Lima, OH Refinery, the Manager, Area Operations - NLIU serves as the Subject Matter Expert for assigned unit operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized performance. This role is responsible for maintaining current operating procedures and training materials, providing technical input to MOC and HAZOP processes, and supporting the development of reliability and profitability initiatives. The position also plays a key role in mentoring and developing operators and Process Safety Specialists (PSSs) to strengthen operational excellence and safety performance.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Solid understanding of specific refinery processes (Crude/Vacuum Distillation, Sat Gas/Naphtha Hydrotreater).
  • Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) knowledge
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, including operators, engineers, and support personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational availability, safety, and long-term reliability of assigned unit(s) through proactive monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in process design, risk assessments (PHA/HAZOP), MOC, incident investigations, and implementation of resulting process improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and track operational and asset threat lists (e.g., LOPC, ITR), including action plans, status updates, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with Area Business Managers and technical teams to lead medium- and long-term reliability, compliance, and improvement projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by supporting unit upsets, shutdowns, and start-ups, and by developing and maintaining start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Lead and support operator training programs, including unit, job change, refresher, and project training in compliance with PSM requirements.
  • Coach and mentor operations personnel through field observations, knowledge sharing, and continuous skills development.
  • Support alarm management efforts, including alarm necessity reviews, prioritization, and setting optimization to improve operational effectiveness.
